now, craig herrera has a look at where the storm is headed now, but first we start with nbc bay arearisten dahlgren who is watching things. she's in new orleans now and has the very latest. kristen? >> reporter: hey there, brent and laura. this was supposed to be the weekend that they were finishing work on the relief wells, doing that static kill in the hopes of getting a permanent fix to this leaking well, and instead now they are having to evacuate the well site, move all of the ships, all the personnel off the site. they'll leave the cap in place, saying that it has contained the oil for the past week or so, and they think that the well has enough integrity and the cap won't do any damage. but it will be unmonitored for a while. they're also having to remove the robotic subs and the cameras watching everything off of the site. those will be the last to go and the first to get back once the storm passes. they'll check things out, make sure there wasn't any damage while nobody was watching the well. but this is also now causing a delay, because by the time they get everything offsi

want to bring craig herrera in. am going to assume this has something to do with a low pressure trough or disruptions in air flow. am i correct on this? or your going to say i'm a complete idiot and stick to your other job? >> we actually, there's a lot of factors that go into it. swon the low pressure you were talking about just off the coast. another one. talk about the heat in the central part of the country. let me show you first off. we start with average highs for this time of year. 68 average high for san francisco. i'm going 60 today. 85 san jose. 77 today. 82 santa rosa. going 77 today. we have been cooler this entire season. yeah, we've got a little spin off of here. this is the upper level low. that's what he was just talking about. there's a spin counterclockwise. sending us cooler conditions and fog. also, over the central part of the state we've got some very hot temperatures. and, remember, heat rises. when the heat rises, something has to fill the space below. so all of this heat is rising over the c
