craig melvin here.ks, we are setting record after record with this pandemic, and it should concern all of us. these are the latest facts at this hour. nbc news reports more than 144,000 new cases wednesday alone. that's a new record. it beats monday's high, which was a record. this is now the eighth day in a row where our country has recorded more than 100,000 new daily cases. even more concerning this morning, hospitalizations are climbing. in fact, according to the covid tracking project, more than 65,000 people are in the hospital as we speak. that's also a new record, according to their data. new york, not taking any chances as infections surge nationwide. people in new york remember what spring was like. governor andrew cuomo just announcing new restrictions that will start friday. they include curfews on bars, restaurants, gyms, also limiting private home gatherings to just ten people. all of this adds new urgency to the biden transition team as it gets ready to take on the crisis. nbc's mike memo
