they have a crane there and they have been lowering rescue workers by crane into the site there of what remains at the warehouse. the number of people we know have been killed remains 36. 26 families have been notified that their loved ones are gone. there is one person they have not been able to identify. they will need dna or dental records to identify that final body. the good news if there is any in this case, they don't believe they will find any more bodies. they say there is a chance in those two areas they have not gotten into, but they don't believe they will find any more bodies in this search. they say they do have some reports of people who have been missing. that needs to be reconciled. they believe the number of people killed will stand at 36, so again, we have work on two fronts continuing today. the recovery work of all the evidence they might be able to find in this case, and anything they might be able to look for as far as the possibility of finding bodies on this site. that's the latest here in oakland. back to you in the studio. >> thank you very much. they also men

>> reporter: the large blew crane you see behind -- blue crane you see behind me was brought in to stabilizeheir wall and all recovery point and debris removal are suspended. pg&e took out the power in the immediate area. as a precaution because the crane is their power lines. a part of the wall that we're concerned about, because of the break and crack that you can see. >> reporter: law enforcement and fire officials use newly taken photos to illustrate the work they're doing and why. and tonight they were seen walking around on the roof. >> and we were able to identify those areas with the actual heat. when you look at their small footprint on the upper left, that is still heat contained with the steel beams. >> reporter: the debris remove is about 75% complete. meaning 75% of the building needs to be surveyed. debris is removed taking out bucket by bucket as we saw a public works using sandbags to block the storm drains. if it rains that the concern is that the debris could cause flooding. workers can't help, but be reminded of the loss of life here. >> they may not have known anybody per

now, our second challenge is the crane, the position of the crane and the telephone -- or the power lines i want to bring in fire inspector robert rowe. so, crews are turning off the power, as we've just heard, in this area to make room for a large crane, robert. what does that tell you about the scene and some of the challenges investigators might be facing. >> well, with most fire scenes, it can be very dangerous, so, you have to take every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of the rescuers and the invest ers. so, by bringing in cranes, they're taking a step back and moving forward safely and methodically. they have to be careful about removing the debris and make sure they don't disturb any evidence or, basically, harm the fire scene at all in any way, so they can have a pure investigation. >> when we look at the pictures, you see just how widespread the flames are in this really big building. we're also learning that fire crews discovered steel that was twisted and wrapped in the back of the building. could that be a clue into the fire's origin, perhaps? >> you know, it's very

can you see the crane. they still removing debris from the building. we have seen buckets of debris being hauled out of there and the power is still out to 12 customers. the sergeant said as long as you see the crane will you know the power is turned off because of the power lines. there is still a corner of the building they cannot go into unil it is shored up. crews stood around waiting for the all-clear from inside the ghost ship building. a corner of the building still needs to be searched but is considered too unstable right now. and at risk for first responders. who want to work and understand why they can't. >> this was the right call. the rue distant call. we are glad they difficulty. >> officials say they do not think they will find anymore victims in the untouched section. >> we have not found any victim recently and we do not expect to, certainly we hoping we don't. more than anything we would like did clear the building and say it is clear. >> at the coroner's office they working to identify victims, enough names and determine cause of deat

nearly 72 hours into recovery efforts, those cranes were brauts to go through the wreckage. it's now being called a crime scene. three more bodies were discovered. among the victims, is the 17-year-old son of an alameda county sheriff's deputy. making the work even more personal for first responders on the ground and for the first time we're hear flumg alameda county district attorney. a team is removing evidence to determine who may have caused the deadliest fire in the city's history. >> i haven't seen a case of this magnitude in terms of the tragedy of so many people dying as a result of a fire or any other crime and that alone makes it an enormous case with enormous amount of responsibility that we have undertaken to make sure we're doing everything exactly the way w we should. >> reporter: and as investigators try to determine the cause all day, we have seen loved ones and friends of those missing brace for the inevitable. lighting candles at a growing make-shift memorial at the site of the warehouse. there are 50 that may have been inside. but still haven't been accoun
