: the 17-year-old girl is here at john muir hospital in walnut creek.hat's where she was flown after the rescue the three girls on the beach all from marin county. the 17-year-old is in critical condition. the rescuers as you can see there are having a tough time with that surf. this is at muir beach near tennesee cove. they are hoisting a 17-year-old girl onto a chp helicopter. she and two friends were hang out at the beach. they didn't realize the tide was coming in and they ended up stranded behind a rock and they couldn't get back to the main beach when the waves started pounding. here's how a witness describes it. >> so they are hanging out. the tide was getting out. when they tried to walk back, the wave swept them out. they didn't have time to get back around to the other side. >> reporter: the other two got back to shore on their own but the 17-year-old was swept out to sea. a man on the beach tried to rescue her. then he got caught in the currents, as well. he was just fine in the end. but by the time rescuers got to the girl, she was unconscio

. >> troop 202 from walnut creek has an exciting tale to tell for years to come. the 34 boys and the troop were at a summer camp this week. they were among 240 boys stranded on one side of a river that runs through calabares park. they were using a foot bridge to go back and forth to different activities. it was more of an inconvenience than anything else, and they were happy they did come prepared. they brought enough food for several days and had enough to share with some of the other troops until a pulley system was set up to shuttle supplies to them. by wednesday night, the water was low enough for all of the boy scouts to get across the river where they continued camp. this troop lenned a valuable lesson in the meantime, in contending with mother nature's unpredictability. >> it always works out. if don't panic, it's a lot easier. again, everything will work out. >> i would say to stay calm, and everything's going to be all right. and don't go too far out at camp when it's like that, it would be too dangerous. >> the boy scouts ended up being okay, others hav

walnut creek police are errorring the arrest of a coin creek. officer the received a tip on the whereabouts of -- officers received a tip on the whereabouts of the suspect and he was arrested at a casino. he's suspected of stealing coins from a dealer downtown last february. police believe the suspect was looking to catch in on the soaring price of gold. gold is priced at just over $1600 an ounce. again we're continuing to follow the standoff. we showed you the pictures of the officers removing two car seats that appeared to have babies in them. we'll monitor this throughout the day and have more on our website and our next newscast as well at 5:00. thanks for watching. have a great day.

nbc bay area's kimberly terry is live in walnut creek where she talked to some of the boys who just returned home. kimberly? >> reporter: that troop just arrived back here this morning, they're happy to be home and, of course, now, have a very exciting tale to tell. troop 202 was one of many other troops that were at a summer camp in the sierra. while they were there, unseasonable rainfall caused the river to crest, covering a foot bridge which separated 240 of the troops from the main camping area. the water was low enough finally to allow all the scouts to pass back over. they had plenty of food to tide them over until a pulley system was set up to shuttle supplies across the river. once they got safely back across the river they returned summer camp and returned home as planned this morning. >> it was a blast. it's probably my best one ever. definitely one i won't forget. i'm glad i was able to be in charge and help the younger boys out with everything. it's definitely an experience to remember. >> the boy scouts say they never felt like they were in imminent danger, they felt like it was
