very strange coincidence connected to creighton university's pathology department. take a look at these two pictures. 11-year-old thomas hunter and his house keeper shirley sherman, they were fatally stabbed five years ago. this double homicide remains unsolved. hunter, the little boy, his father, dr. william hunt hwillho worked in the pathology defense. an unusual coincidence. what the police will tell cnn is that they are looking in to whether or not this case may have any connections to this latest murder, an unsolved mystery that has taken a lot of people in omaha by surprise five years ago, continues to be a mystery. they are hoping that more calls will be generated, that people will perhaps make some connections and that they will get more tips and be able to solve both of them. >> let's hope they do. all right. thanks very much. >>> here's what else we're working on for this hour here in the cnn newsroom. more than half a billion dollars, hard to imagine what you could do with that kind of cash. but people across the country are dreaming of winning the lotto.

brumback worked at creighton university in the pathology department. that's something you're going to want to remember. well, they were planning on moving to west virginia. dr. brumback had just announced his retirement from the university. they were excited about the move. well, this week a piano mover came to the house on tuesday, and discovered the body of dr. brumback. it was in the hallway. his wife mary's body was also found inside the home, also found at the scene, according to the omaha police department, a gun clip. at this point, ashleigh, we don't know if it is connected to the crime. police not making that connection for us at this moment. but they are certainly very concerned about what is the brutal slaying of a couple who, you know, as i said, well loved, well admired by this community, actually. >> it seems the mystery is getting more bizarre because there was an unsolved crime back in 2008, i believe in the same community. are they actually trying to figure out if there is any connection between those two crimes? >> reporter: that's per

the killing has rocked omaha, nebraska, and creighton university, from the professor taught.rs. cnn's stephanie elam is in omaha. stephanie, what do we know about the latest crime? >> reporter: we can tell you this one crime happened on tuesday where dr. brumback, back in march of 2008 another faculty member dr. william hunter his 11-year-old son and family housekeeper were found murdered in their house, a case that's never been involved and because it involves the pathology department from the one university police are looking into it but staying very closed lipped about what the circumstances of the brumback murders have been so far simply because they're trying to make progress in this investigation. >> they're saying because of the location and the pairs of these double cold case murders. >> reporter: keep in mind the pathology department is said to be just 12 people and so to have this many murders connected to this one department is why they're looking for any connection but they do not at least they have not told us any suspects that they may have in this case at this

a mystery has people on edge at the creighton university medical school in nebraska. dr.weeks away from retiring and moving away to enjoy his golden years. movers found him and his wife mary dead in their home. flashback five years. the son and house keeper of the professor in the same department at the medical school were found dead at home. this is certainly a murder mystery and intriguing here. stephanie went to the graduation. what was the tone there? >> reporter: it's really interesting, don. obviously this is a huge accomplishment for these students. these people are happy. they have earned degrees. their families are thrilled to see them graduate. for the subset of people within the medical school who did study under dr. bromback, knew him this was a bitter sweet week as they were preparing to graduate. we caught up with two grads to find out how the week has been for them. >> you could tell he just loved to teach students. booming voice. just really taught us a lot in the few classes we had with him. you could tell he loved his profession and giving back to the co
