that is now being extended along the border with croatia. sarah: let's bring in a dw correspondent who is on the border between serbia and croatia. we are hearing that these migrants are now choosing to transit through croatia, through hungary, on their way to europe. what are you seeing where you are? reporter: well, the officials here keep telling me that some 2500 refugees are in this camp, which you see behind me. i get the impression that the number must be much, much higher than that. by the minute new trucks, arriving here with police, and evermore refugees are pouring out. the past three hours, mainly women and children are arriving. i took a short tour around the camp and it -- one can only put it this way, it is heartbreaking to see small children, infants come with their mothers sleeping on the plane ground. for now they are in safety, well taking care of. i talked to eight officials and there is enough food and shelter for the next 48 hours. the refugees are meant to stay here, some 20 kilometers from the border. the police picks

n side of croatia's border with slovenia.ave spoken to refugees from syria just a few moments ago, they said they came here by taxi, that they tried to get into slovenia and were turned away. as you can see behind me, this area is rather empty. the official border crossing is just down that road over there. it is not too crowded right now, but the border beyond that is rather porous, we have seen just down that road, several taxis dropping refugees off. obviously they are going to try to cross. the question is going to be if they can't get through the official crossing, will they try to cross the field. it's literally an open field. you see one tree on each side, so are they going to try to cross by foot? that's the biggest question now. we are seeing enforced security measures on both sides. there is a helicopter hovering above on the slovenia side. they are trying to make sure people aren't coming into slovenia. it's a dire situation for the refugees. many thought they would be in slovenia already. that hasn't happened and

live to the croatia-sloughinian border. lawrence lee is there. people are effectively stranded at the crossing. yes. this is one of the a number of different places that you described, where countries are dumping groups in different places. all these people were brought here more or less from zagreb in buses and are in sort of a no man's land. that's the border with slovenia. it's a no man's land. within a couple of thousands, this is what the local volunteers are saying. they are giving them soup, bedding and clothes. the temperatures are a little colder. it's relative and obviously unpleasant. it could be worse. the biggest sticking point is over there, where the buildings are, there's a lot of people piled up against the fence with riot police, pleading to let them go through. they have small children. one or two were let through and they said "why can't you let us through?", there was an arabic speaker. a couple of buses took them up the road. they started to take a few more people. you could have forecast that they would have to deal with it
