eastbound interstate 80 between hercules and crockett will close at 9:00 tonight. drivers will have to detour using highways four and 680. that area will reopen early monday morning. and this is the second closure of three closures on that part of i-80. there will be one more the weekend of august 18th. the westbound lanes will be closed for the same project on labor day weekend. a proposed toll hike for most bay area bridges intended to raise funds to keep public transit agencies afloat is getting some pushback. if passed, the temporary toll hike would take effect in 2024. it would raise the cost of tolls by $1.50 across seven state owned bridges in the bay area for the next five years. seven house members have written to governor newsom with concerns about the cost. earlier, at four, congressman desantis said lawmakers want to see more analysis of the impact, charging more people who don't have money to spend and don't have options is not the only way to approach it. maybe what we have to do, but let's get these questions answered in a thoughtful way before we do

closure stretches from highway four in hercules to the coming skyway and crockett. those lanes will remain closed until early monday morning. here's a map of the closure area. the main detour begins at highway four in hercules and you can take highway four east to 680. northbound and eventually rejoin 80 in fairfield and cordelia. drivers can use 780 westbound to get to benicia vallejo. caltrans says the single repaving project will accomplish two very important goals. once this project is completed, motorists will experience a smoother ride along the interstate 80 along here in contra costa county. this will also extend the extend the lifespan of the roadway, which will mean minimizing the labor work for maintenance crews to go out there and make those repairs. in the long run. this is the second or three closures of that portion of eastbound i-80. there will be one more the weekend of august the 18th. westbound lanes will be closed for the same repaving project during the labor day weekend as well. the chp says at least one person was killed on highway 101in san j

east 80 will close for construction from hercules to crockett.rivers will be detoured onto highway four. another closure for this project is slated for labor day weekend. the max bay area toll authority is launching a new effort to help drivers pay overdue tolls. penalties and late fees from bridges or express lanes. the toll payment plan is being administered through fast track. the mtc says the first part of the plan is available to low income drivers who make about $60,000 a year for a family of four. it starts with a phone call to fast track to find out if there are any outstanding tolls or penalties on a vehicle . the payment plan that will waive all of the penalties that they may have accumulated. and then if they have at least $100 in outstanding tolls, then we would put them on a payment plan so that they can pay off the tolls. all drivers, no matter what income, can qualify for. the second part of the program, it's a one time waiver of penalties that may have accumulated due to outstanding tolls. all right. taking a look at the national

reporting live in crockett, i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu fox two news. thank you, bailey. dozens of people died in a building fire in south africa. the night time fire ripped through a five story building in johannesburg, south africa's biggest city. government officials say squatters were living inside that building. initial evidence suggests the fire started with a candle. 73 bodies, including some young children, have been recovered. at least 55 others were hurt. our time is now. 505. later today, a vigil in san francisco will honor the life of a store clerk who died after a robber beat him with a baseball bat. 60 year old johannes toldi, also known as john an, was attacked last thursday night at the richmond market. he succumbed to a brain injury. the owner of the store says the robber was stealing beer and when told he tried to stop him from leaving the store, toldi was knocked to the ground and was beaten with a baseball bat. he died tuesday, so far, no arrests have been made. the vigil for mr. toldi will begin tonight at 9 p.m. at richmond market on balboa street. a
