the santa cruz mountains will see some very heavy rainfall there. the rain going to be ramping up throughout the night tonight into early tomorrow morning. i think the central reza really likely stay within its banks that you ge certainly rise rapidly, maybe even flood a little bit. i've got the atmospheric river. you see all that moisture all the way down to honolulu and that's all that some tropical moisture working his way back up into the bay area. that's what we call that atmospheric river or pineapple express. that is bringing with it all that moisture and pumping right back into our skies now. and so we've been watching that very closely. you get that moisture just loaded in the atmosphere. and then if you get the right response, you get some cold air coming behind it. you start to squeeze some of that moisture out. we're seeing that happen right now, but it's starting to stall out a little bit in the san mateo county. you see it. there also in the santa cruz county. also the rain coming down through there. but all around the bay area. of cou

as we move into monday for the south bay and santa cruz mountains. see the heavier pockets of rain monday into monday afternoon with a focus on the santa cruz mountains. once we look at the 48-hour rainfall totals you see the numbers pick up. the santa cruz mountains could see at least 4 to 6 inches of rain on monday. this area in yellow shows the areas around the bay area where we could see some localized run-off style issues for monday as the peak rain rates pick up. look at the sierra, look at that through 5:00 tuesday. that's a lot of snow. as the cold air arrives, could see a dusting of snow around our bay area mountain peaks. that's tuesday. three days of active weather. let's fast forward and see how much more snow we can get in the sierra. look at that. we are almost at 100 inches of snow. i don't have a color to match that. that's the sierra this week. it will be tough to do driving there. as the last storm kicks through, that should be it. we start to clear out as we head towards next weekend. we have a lot of busy weather coming our way. w

santa cruz mountains, another bullseye for the rain. the highest rate of rain to start the week looks to be on monday right there, midday, santa cruz mountain. south bay could now see a considerable amount of rain. once you factor in the sunday rain and add in the monday totals you see the purple on the map, indicating we could be looking at 2 to 4 inches of rain on the higher peaks of the santa cruz mountains and north bay mountains, probably at this point closing in on half a foot of rain. behind that, here we go. cold air dropping on down. you heard about the sierra ski resorts. this is what will be great news for kickstarting a see air asnow pack. a great way to do it is the cold air support and a lot of moisture brought in by a moderate strength atmospheric river. those are snow totals just through 7:00 a.m. on tuesday. you are at 5 to 6 feet of snow. we will probably finish the week at 8 to 9 feet of snow. as we talked about, the mountains could be looking at snow showers by tuesday morning. we have another round to deal with. com

we're kind of just south of santa cruz. up in socal tree on power lines. this was at 5 36 just recently within a half hour or so, sparking and causing problems there trees down so you can kind of get an idea what's going on. we're seeing flooding . debris flows. road closure due to water. this is rio del mar, splashing on house when vehicles drive through at aptos speech. case of problem there. roadway flooding a green valley that's at 4 48. so you get the idea of the lot going on out there and what i want to point out. they said this earlier, too. but this just let's grab the little little little grid here and said okay, let's look what's going on there. and these are were happening where the storm report people, but there's this whole bay area right now. so there's that storm report. people ever. this stuff's happening all over the bay area right now, especially in the santa cruz mountains, especially in the east bay and parts of the south bay up around mission peak and up around mount hamilton's. so just keep that in mind as you travel about, it's raini

a decent amount considering you're in the rain shadow of the santa cruz mountains but up to 1 inch ofwhat we need and we need it to happen over and over again which will happen over the next seven days. take a look at our rain chances. the close of the bars are to the top of the scale the higher the rain chance and you can see the lowest rain chance we have in the forecast through next week is a 50% chance. rain moving in over and over again adding up to 2 inches of rain in the santa clarita valley. 3 to 5 inches in the highest elevations maybe even more than that in the northbay and santa cruz mountains. temperatures in the short term will drop down to what is normal. low to mid 40s around the bay and along the coast. high temperatures before the rain arrives will be at their warmest wear takes the longest for the rain to arrive around 60 degrees for san jose. mid-50s inland on the east bay and around the bay but only low 50s for the northbay because you will see more clouds and the earliest for that rain. plenty of rain chances in the forecast including for christmas eve. heavy rain

the rain continues today with some of the highest totals expected to be along the santa cruz mountains and towards the south and east, and we will see a chance of isolated thunder and hail today with lowering snow levels by tomorrow. we're looking at all of these impacts that will continue for us with isolated thunder and hail once again the main threat we will see today. as we get a look at storm ranger right now, it's covered with a study rainfall, and as we get a closer look we can see that there are still pockets of heavy rain up around that area, and then a steady rain as you go from novato to vallejo and to concord. it gets lighter for contra costa county toward the delta, and also spotty rain moving through the tri-valley, and into the south county where right now we are seeing the focus of some of the heavier rain moving through right now. this is a system not budging anytime soon. as we get another wave of energy coming in later this afternoon into i would say late morning and afternoon hours, we could see an intensity -- the intensity of the winds picking up as well as the ra
