we would love to hear how the crypto community is digesting elon musk joining the board on twitter. een such a loud figure in the crypto community. there is a huge crypto community on twitter and the future of twitter could be more decentralized. >> it was weird to hear kristen smith talk about it from the decentralized social network standpoint because you could also think about it from a commerce standpoint. twitter has already started to integrate pieces of the lightning network here to make some payments possible via the platform through the lightning network. that is a very popular project when it comes to bitcoin and payment transfers. the idea of decentralizing social media, there are a lot of projects out there people try to use when it comes to media and decentralization but they are still in early days. there are questions about how twitter might take a role in the space. >> pascal, before we begin, i would love for you to give us a flavor of bitcoin 2022. it was big last year. is it even bigger this year and what are people talking about? >> yes very intense this year. i w

twitter. i'm focused on bitcoin. go bitcoin. emily: there is a huge cryptoty on twitter and i wonder what you think the impact could be on the crypto community or do you think twitter should be decentralized? michael: i don't think twitter is going to be decentralized regardless of the outcome of all of these discussions right now. twitter is a centralized service. the only thing we are sure we can decentralizes bitcoin, which has been successful. it's a much simpler idea. trying to decentralize a highly functional high-speed application is very challenging and no one has successfully done that well yet. emily: you seem optimistic about treasury secretary janet yellen's understanding of bitcoin. i'm curious even though we might be looking at a longer timeframe for the divorce of bitcoin and risk asset, do you think we are at an inflection point when it comes to regulation and mainstream adoption? michael: absolutely. i think april 7 at american university was a critical speech. probably one of the most important speeches of the century because you had a set

and so i sometimes when i'm on crypto twitter, i'm like, oh this is just people's egos fighting each other all day long. and it is very fascinating to watch. you know, like i'm totally well aware that if i were to engage in a lot of fights on twitter, i probably would have like a much bigger following, you know what i mean? and you know, i do see people that kind of employ that strategy which is sort of disheartening but you know, whatever works for them. um, but in terms of you know more women in the space, i mean you know one thing granted, you know, i've been covering this for almost seven years. so one thing that's heartening to me is the fact that there's a lot more women now than there were back in 2015. and i definitely would say that like nfts have brought an even more women in which is great and one other thing. i don't know if you've heard of the web 3 investment clubs, but this is syndicate dow. so by the way, so as we mentioned, you know dow stands for decentralized autonomous organization, but there are these like many dows now where there are groups of 99 people or less

caroline: what was interesting on the currently centralized website that is twitter, you had the like of the ceo of spx, the cryptonge, talking about what he thought decentralized twitter could look like. talk to us about is there anyway you can reverse engineer this? he was talking about tweets going on, sent to choosers who have access to them. you can send direct messages as tweets and monetize it by having a protocol charging something per message or being about the user interface. is there anyway you could reverse engineer twitter in and of itself? nader: of course, and actually everything he described in his tweet already exists on deso. like i said, all anyone is talking about is blackberry and yet the iphone is right here, including end to end encrypted group messaging. if you want to see it for yourself, there are many apps listed on deso.org. you can use what he described as the epitome of decentralized social media and it's happening before our eyes. it has been a gradual, sudden phenomenon. deso already has 1.5 million accounts. hundreds of applications are being built on it. sam bateman freed a long t

crypto does. >> you have raised the central contradiction of the dilemma. elon musk says he wants to clean up twitters of the scams and frauds. he uses twitter. he is very vocal. he has been dabbling in all sorts of crypto tweets that move the price of crypto coin and dogecoin. to frame the problem, remember that during covid, we saw a festival of frauds and scams on social media. there has been a boom. a clear problem. problem regulators are looking at. i think elon musk has no choice but to address it. the question is, can he? tom: a festival of fraud. what do regulators or what will they be looking at specifically? what measures could they be rolling out? how much will they scrutinize elon musk at this point? >> part of this will be about platform responsibility. during the last crypto ico boom, we saw crypto's waking out. they restricted a lot of crypto ads. because there has been such a boom during covid, regulators are once again knocking on the door of social media platforms. in the u.k., there is new legislation being extended to social media platforms to make them responsible for ads. in eur
