the clash with nevada's culinary union stems from a flyer the union sent out about 2020 candidates andir health care plans and claims sanders' plan would end culinary health care and require medicare for all. since that flyer dropped, sanders his his supporters have viciously attacked him about his medicare for all plan. joining me is one of the best political minds in the state, jon ralston and maria urbina, national political director and obtained the flyer and set the whole thing off with the back and forth. talk to us about how you are reading the lay of the land right now between this ongoing fight and the sanders campaign. >> just to give you a little bit of context first, this is the second flyer that the culinary union, which has, as you mentioned, more members than any other union in the state that they put out in the last week. the first one obliquely attacked sanders and elizabeth warren, but the one that my reporter obtained and we put out a couple nights ago was specific in saying that sanders alone would end the culinary's health care plan. these folks are people who work

your take on the labor culinary union not endorsing anybody as biden and sanders are going at it afterpaign attacking the union not supporting bernie's single-payer. when you heard of the fight, what do you think? >> kind of emblematic what is going on with their party. democrats are in disarray. there is a lot of infighting because they don't have a strong standard-bearer. they don't have a strong front-runner that can take on president trump in november because if you look at all of the these issues, who has been a better champion for the american worker than president trump? look at this economy. look at wages rising for the bottom income earners, the most, more than six times the rate as the top 1%. these are big, important changes that are happening and that's why democrats are in such disarray because they know none of these candidates can take on president trump or the amazing record of accomplishment in three short years. liz: the fundamental problem we keep hearing from analysts, democrats have a big gap between enthusiasm and electability. we hear it from analysts on fox news

the fight with the largest union in the state, the culinary workers union did not seem like a wise political move. do you believe that the sanders campaign has that under control and have their fans under control regarding, you know, reaching out in negative ways to those union members? >> yeah, i think that for me, just being on the ground here in nevada, one of the things that has been so telling for me, spending time with make the road nevada, and going out and talking to people at the doors. i ran into someone by the name of angelica romero and she's also a culinary union member as well as a make the vote member. she said she's voting for sanders. she said she believes in medicare for all. i think at the end of the day what we don't want to do is pit union member versus non-union member. ultimately the union decided to not endorse in the primary and their members are going to go out and they're going to vote their conscience. and they're not going to just vote for their plan. they're going to vote for their spouses. they're going to vote for their families. they're going to vote for thei

for sure. >> it is. >> can you explain the culinary union situation that's happening because you're reportingul union is warning members that bernie sanders would end their health care if elected president. put this into perspective for people who aren't living and breathing nevada politics. how much does it matter? >> it matters a lot. they can be the behemoth of organizing if it wants to be. i have gotten ahold of a couple of flyers that clearly shows that the culinary union is getting involved in this process. whether or not it decides to endorse or not. i reported last night that the culinary union is circulating a flyer that does say that bernie sanders would end their health care plan. they have a union health trust and they love their health care plan. they much prefer the public option plans versus the bernie sanders and elizabeth warren plan. however, they notably have taken aim at bernie sanders. said that he specifically would end culinary health care. they have not said that about elizabeth warren. they emphasized her transition to medicare for all that she would work with them on

today we again see a lack of an endorsement from the culinary union. so this makes the unknown of who is going to surface to the top even more. we see in the polls that sanders is doing well, so you know if i'm a betting woman, i'm going to say that sanders has the advantage. but the real question mark is where is biden going to land? so i think that, for me, is the biggest question and also understanding that the latino population that sanders has been getting a lot of support from is young. and young folks and latinos traditionally are the ones with the lowest turnout rates. we've seen them increasing in the last election, but this is yet again another unknown, if they're going to walk the walk of saying, i'm going to turn out for this person. >> tamara, the professor raised a great question there, and that is with the pointed lack of an endorsement by the culinary workers union, the men and women who make las vegas go, and their pointed criticism of bernie, do they open a lane for someone? does the lack of endorsement mean good news for any of the d

but biden has been spending the last few days going on the back of the house places where the culinary unione said at one event this week, in their heart i know the union is with us. that's the gamble. this whole nevada strategy is a gamble for the biden campaign. i think all the campaigns would admit, of the four early states, this is the least predictable. nevada hasn't had this early role in the way the other three early states have. but the biden team has put a lot of time and northerly heenergy . they need that to carry him forward. >> shaq, how much has the bernie sanders been focusing on union voters here? anything like what joe biden has been doing? >> yeah, they've been going to the town hall. i was covering that back in december. when you saw others back in back in consecutive days, they had town halls. there is support among culinary union members for senator bernie sanders. the issue is, there is also a lot of frustration and a lot of confusion about his medicare for all and a lot of opposition to that policy. that's something that he's had to contend with in the state of nevada.

with the powerful culinary union already warning members off bernie sanders' medicare for all plan.process, they also play a part. nevada will be the first caucus since the iowa disaster, and has scrapped plans to use an app similar to the one that crashed in iowa. now nevada democrats will be using google docs and paper ballot for early voting, which begins saturday. it will play out like this. voters will check in using a pdf file preloaded onto ipads. they will be given a card with a pin number and enter the number into a google form. then select 3 to 5 preferences on a paper ballot, and insert the ballots and cards into a ballot box. ballot boxes will then be transported to designated ballot processing hubs, where they will be scanned and stored. and that complex sounding process is just for early voting. the party is not yet revealing how it intends to handle voting day itself, february 22nd. while the candidates scramble for votes, the party appears to be scrambling for a reliable voting system. shannon? >> shannon: jonathan hunt, thank you. china reporting a dramatic increase
