it's 79 in the city, gorgeous out this evening, manassas down to 66 degrees, culpeper 68.ou get out along interstate 81, it's cooling down, too. winchester 66, martinsburg 68 degrees. back out to the west a big area of high pressure not only at the surface, but aloft. underneath this big ridge of high pressure is very, very hot temperatures from texas all the way up into the northern central plains, minneapolis today 99 degrees for a high temperature. now they're getting some cooling relief in the form of some thunderstorms and that is a frontal system which is going to also push a front, that same front, right through here the latter part of the weekend. it looks like it could bring us at least a chance for some showers and thunderstorms. out of the holiday weekend sunday looks like the day where we're most likely to get some rain and thunderstorms. more heat, though, for tomorrow and for sunday and we'll have more humidity out there and you'll really notice the humidity, not so much tomorrow, but into sunday and i think lingering into monday as well. it will be fairly st

another severe thunderstorm warning for northern spotsylvania, northeastern orange, stafford county, culpeperquier and southern prince william until 5:45 so that makes its way from annapolis and the bay bridge right on down toward the south. you can see that down toward fredericksburg. we'll do a couple zooms here. the heaviest area now seems to be in towards the mt. vernon region and also over towards clinton maryland, right around andrews air force base around friendly and camp springs. some lightning strikes out of these storms, as well. as we move toward the south, we're looking at dale city, around triangle, midway island, and then even further down to the south, just to the north of the fredericksburg area, seeing some of that heavier rain. the heaviest rain in the area that's going to be affected next, we're talking about charles county, right around grateton, cedar grove, la plata, waldorf, you're going to see rain in the next half hour to hour. it is going to be very heavy rain. i would not be surprised to see flash flooding into this area. and then further off to the north and east,

in culpeper, 100. 104 in fredericksburg, 100 toward salisbury, and frederick, 98 degrees. hagerstown, actual temperature, 81, they have seen rain. we'll see rain, as well. right now, here's where the rain is, well to the north of our area, right along the maryland/pennsylvania border. some rain will make its way toward the south. other rain will make its way up from the south. so i do think we have a pretty good chance to see some rain in the next 24 hours. most of it, though, will come tomorrow. and that's why the national weather service has issued a flash flood watch for the entire day tomorrow for the potential of seeing some rainfall rates, upwards of 1 to 2 inches per hour, maybe very heavy downpours during the afternoon tomorrow. it's all because of a couple frontal boundaries, one to our south, another to our north. these are going to come together right on top of us tomorrow. so not only will we see heavy rain from some of the storms, but we will see the rain persist with storm after storm moving over the same area. could even be severe weather. here's the frontal

you can see the rain, mostly down towards fredricksburg, shower activity in culpeper county, even portionsing shower activity. and hampshire county and west virginia moving into frederick county, virginia. and i do expect showers to continue to linger. there is some lightning associated with those storms in west virginia, but most of the storms as they move to the east are continuing to die out. and that's good news. so if you're thinking about heading out to fireworks activities, how about annapolis at 80 degrees, mostly cloudy, looking good. i think we'll be good in annapolis tonight. what about reston towards herndon? same deal. this is around lake fairfax area, 79 degrees, mostly cloudy, looking dry. i do think you'll see a shower or two between now and 9:00. but i think by the time those fireworks go off, we are going to be a-okay. and the national mall, well, we've got storms possible, but i think they will stay to the south. temperatures around that 80 degree mark. so i think we're going to be looking good all across the area. only biggest area of concern maybe toward fredricksburg.

up to 101 right now in fredericksburg, 98 in culpeper, 96 in quantico.warm atmosphere, especially south. first thing you're going to notice is the severe thunderstorm warnings which does include anne arundel county, but it's way to the north towards portions of the chesapeake bay, northern portions of anne arundel county. another storm around frederick and more towards hagerstown. we'll zoom into these storms and you can see the one right around damascus and mt. erie making its way east along i-70. we'll even zoom into that storm. around langdon woods, and back towards little georgetown, williams port, pinesburg as you make your way closer to the hagerstown region, making their way from west virginia in towards maryland. and we'll continue to see them move very slowly. a lot of rain falling with these storms, and most of the rain has actually stayed well to the north. up there towards the pennsylvania/maryland border, you can see a lot of shower activity here, but it's starting to die out and i expect it to continue to do so. so maybe a shower or storm f
