.♪ the cumberland river winds through the western kentucky town of eddyville.ooming around a bend is a virtual fortress. the kentucky state penitentiary, also known as the castle on the cumberland. >> i was really intimidated by this place. it's an intimidating place to walk into. >> this could be the worst place you have ever been in your life. >> the eddyville castle will get you. somebody will take your life from you if you come through here with that old chip on your shoulder, there's going to be somebody to take it off you. >> ksp is kentucky's only maximum security facility. a group of stone masons from italy teamed with inmates from various prisons to construct the castle which opened in 1889. >> when they first built it, they had a sign up over the front door that said, "abandon hope all ye that enter here." they wanted this place to look pretty menacing and it still looks menacing even today. >> i think the penitentiary is unique in many respects, just because of the foreboding appearance that it has. it's a serious place where serious things happen. t

private funds were raised to improve navigation on the river below cumberland. construction began on a bypass canal by 1775, but the revolutionary war intervened to put the entire project on hold. now he wanted to revive it and expand it. at the time, no one knew what navigation could be extended beyond cumberland along one of the potomac rivers up land to reach a branch of the ohio river. accurate maps of the upper potomac and ohio river system simply did not exist. accordingly, on the outward bound leg of his western journey in september of 1784, washington asked people along the way about the head waters of the potomac and of the ohio and where the two systems came closest together. although the answers often conflicted, he recorded all of them in the hopes of later determining the best transit route. to reach his frontier holdings, washington's party left to follow the overland route to the ohio valley, the standard method. his travels cut short before reaching his property. washington decided to salvage what he could of the trip by working his way back thro

this is for cumberland, kaip may, atlantic counties. with this storm we can expect 60 mile an hour winds, very heavy rain. there is a little bit of lightning in this, and this is going to continue as we go through the next 30 minutes or so. so there you see some of the heavy rain stretching from millville, down to milford. this is all moving to the east. mainly at 50 miles an hour. so this line of storms is very fast moving. we could see locally heavy rain. but it's not moving very slowly. again, it will be near about maurice river by 5:05, cape may by 5:26 and continue moving closer to the shore by 5:30 when the warning is set to expire. of course, we'll keep our eye on it for you. a closer view shows heavy rain over millville moving toward mar ruse river. should be in that area in a couple minutes or so, where the heaviest rain is expected to move in. moving through milford now, that's the heavy rain. that should be ending soon. this will continue to move across the delaware bay and then into parts of cape may county. now, aside from

crews now have a two-alarm fire at a car dealership in cumberland county under control. the flames broke out at this nissan dealership in vineland around 5:15 this morning. police tell us fortunately nobody was hurt. investigators are now looking into what caused this fire. >>> new surveillance video may be the key to helping police find the man who shot up a barbershop. it's difficult to make out the man's face, but take a look. police believe he may have opened fire at a barbershop in reading. this is the scene wednesday when somebody shot four men at the all star barbershop on rockland street. three of the victims are doing okay. o fourth victim is in critical but stable condition. this is not the first shooting at this barbershop. investigators believe this crime may be related to another shooting that happened here earlier in the week. # starting today, police officers in pennsylvania will now be allowed to carry a drug that can reverse the effects of a heroin overdose. before today only paramedics and doctors were legally allowed to administer narcan. now they can
