west into cumberland, maryland, uniontown, and then 1818, it comes here to wheeling. when it comes here, that will give the community, which about that time is about 50 years old, the real spurt it needs for growth. over the next 20-25 years the population of wheeling will almost triple. it starts as an outpost on the frontier. was the western extent of the united states in the 17th 70's. smallgoing to be a very community. most of the buildings will be made out of logs and then some kind of lumber. as we move to the 19th century, and as people start to move west , wheeling will start to grow because this is what some people would refer to as a jumping off point. ohio, indiana and so on. that is why the national road will end up this way. as more and more people come into the area, then the area will move up and down the river. it will start to expand. the center of it is where we are right now. as we move through the 19th century it extends to the south, grows,north, and as it buildings were made at a brick. by the mid-century there will be a couple of holdings made o
