governor cuomo joins me in just a few moments. but first joining me now is human rights activist and atlanta resident martin luther king iii. martin, thank you for joining us. let me ask you, you were born and raised in atlanta and now raising -- you and audrey raising your daughter, yolanda, in atlanta. and you stay on top of everything internationally but atlanta's home. you stay on top of everything there. how do you see what occurred there and where we are now and how the city has handled it so far? >> starting with how the city has handled it, rev, i think the first steps have been appropriately taken and the city is handling it as well as one can expect. i think that the d.a. is looking into it to see if there's a prosecution. but beyond that it says how pervasive. no matter where you are, this is where many in the modern civil rights movement came out of atlanta. not just dad but of course julian bond, mayor jackson, a whole lot of others. lonnie king. hosea williams. all of those guys. andrew young. and many, many more wer

and on june 29th, governor cuomo allowed summer camps to open. graduates can feasibly be working at any of these places, visiting any of these places. the next day have to go to have a graduation inside of a car or individual or virtual. so we really, the argument really is, more that our freedoms are being trampled upon. he is not allowing the graduating class statewide to assemble and have a peaceful assembly and celebrate. and i do want to stay, i watch his daily briefings. he always talked about unity and talks about equity and i really find it so interesting because graduation truly is an event that is completely unifying. it doesn't see anything, other than the fact that somebody worked really hard to earn a degree. melissa: right. >> i believe education is the greatest equalizer. i feel he is denying that for everybody in the state. melissa: very well-said. margaret, thank you. arbitrary and random, yes, unfair. that is a lot of things he has been doing. thank you for that. we appreciate it. >> thank you so much. thank you so much. connell

. >> and new york governor andrew cuomo just introduce ad police reform bill yesterday. what does that involve? >> reporter: so governor cuomo said this morning in the press conference that he wants new york state to be the progressive leader on police reform. he wants to make this state the one that other states follow when they try to reform their own police forces. so today he debuted, or actually yesterday. last week he debuted a number of reforms, including, you know, independent investigations of police misconduct being done by outside the jurisdiction where they happened. banning choke holds. things like that. things that have -- he thinks will resonate with the demonstrators. and create a pattern where new york state can be one that other states look to as they are trying to figure out what to do legislatively after this massive, massive protest movement that's changed the conversation about policing in the country. >> no doubt about it. evan mcmorris-santoro on the streets of brooklyn, new york. thank you. much more on the nationwide protest still to come. stay
