in curran county, that same organization i was talking to you about the curran civic unity movement p one of knows organizations that made it up was called the community service organization. and the community service organization is where caesar chavez cut his teeth as an organizer, right, before he organized farm workers. and so there was a -- an organization of the c.s.o. in bakersfield. it was statewide organization also spread beyond california as well. and the c.s.o. was one of the early organizationless working through the civic unit movement to gain federal money to fight poverty, right. how do you do that? it's a very nebulous concept. fight poverty. part of it is going into the communities i was describing and try and report on the conditions people lived in. this fellow right there is a man named jesse boyard. and he was active in the cso and he was a community organizer in southeast bakersfield. he did a variety of things from getting ordinary people to vote, getting them to attend city council meetings to be aware how local policies would affect them. again when they got
