my question is, do you think that the financial industry in its current form is curting economic growth in any way, and what do you think the government needs to do to make the financial industry a more sustainable form of growth? >> that is a really good question. look, we did what we had to do in 2008 and 2009. i think perhaps in 2009 we could have done a better job of forcing banks to clean up their balance sheets. even if we're going to bail them out, forcing them to shed bad assets. we didn't do that, so that's water under the bridge. if we had had the resolution tools to put the insolvent institutions into a resolution process, our economy would be stronger now, too. when you prop up the inefficient players, you have a bloated sector. there is a correcting mechanism in the market and financial services got too big. and we left it big with the bailouts. nobody except for lehman brothers and wamu were allowed to fail. so you prop up the inefficient, you still have a very large financial sector. if you look at the bank balance sheets, i'm delighted that banks are getting healthier, b
