this is the crews in the city of pittsburgh and they are working between york and cutter. this water-main break is running and at this point, both of the streets in this area are dry. we will show what you this looked like when we first got here as crews were pulling water out of the street. the call was about 8:00 this morning and it sent water rushing down the street. we talked with a man who lives a couple of blocks away and he said at the height of this break he had water flowing down his street. >> it was so high that it was causing belts to slip and squeal. it was so bad. >> reporter: and a worker out here says the water will remain shut off while they continue to do repair work. he does not know how many homes are affected but at least a couple of blocks surrounding the bridge will have the water dark brink will have the -- will have the water shut off. it will be at least a countel of hours before this was the -- couple of hours before this water line is repaired and we will continue to monitor the situation here in pittsburgh. for now we are live in pittsburgh, al

stephanie cutter served as the president's deputy campaign manager. she joins me now. you look rested. >> thank you. >> welcome back from the time off i assume you took. let's start with when it comes to the fiscal cliff and the mandate the president believes he has on taxes, we understand that, is the democratic base going to accept changes in medicare? >> well, you know, chuck, we need to work through a process. the president has a balanced deficit reduction plan already on the table that includes a medicare savings and medicaid savings, about $340 billion. over the course of the next ten years including savings we've already put in place, that's more health care savings than even simpson-bowles achieves. so if we want balanced deficit reduction, we have to look at everythi everything. everything that needs to be on the table. the mandate that the president has, and i think he said this after the election, his mandate is to protect the middle class and help people enter and stay in the middle class. how do we do that? make sure medicaid is there in the future, that i

six inch pipe on west 11th street between york and cutter broke about midnight. we're told no homes were damaged but several people did lose water service while the pipe was fixed. >>> pittsburg wasn't the only problem spot for water. water lines have been breaking all over the bay area today. in fact, nearly half a dozen broke in san jose and two in redwood city. one of the redwood city pipes flooded a couple of homes near brewster and warren overnight. three hours later another line burst near allerton and standish. no property damage there. but of the five pipes that burst around san jose, the biggest was a 12" pipe at story road and lyndale. about two dozen customers lost water service during the fix but there was no flood damage. >>> israel is intensifying its attacks on the gaza strip despite talk of a truce. right now gaza is seeing the biggest explosions since the fighting started last week. cbs reporter danielle nottingham with the latest developments. >>> reporter: a shaken woman walked away from her building outside tel aviv after hamas rocket attack.
