pearl jam, madonna, miley cyrus canceling concerts and we're keeping a close eye on the mark hes after the single worst day on wall street since the 2008 crisis. things are looking up, the stock futures pointing to a big rebound. the markets appear to be reacting in part to president trump floating the idea of a payroll tax cut and other economic relief to offset the impact of the coronavirus. we're going to begin, though, with the health concerns this morning. joining us, cnn chief medical correspondent dr. sanjay gupta and dr. celine gounder. i want to start with where you think we are this morning. the most important developments over the last 12 hours. i don't know if it is santa clara declaring in gatherings, more schools closing, what is it? >> i think the social distancing measures that are going into effect sort of being determined more at the local level, not coming from some sort of national recommendation. i think that's something that is really alerting people to what is happening here in the country. obviously a lot of people hearing about italy and being reminded that in

>> there are a lot of parameters that we don't know about this cyrus. the influenza virus usually has a u-shaped curve are it after effects the very young and very old. with this current coronavirus, we're just seeing half of that u. the youth for whatever reason are being protected. there are a lot of theories as to why. whether it's because they are constantly around coronavirus and rhino viruses, as you know children have colds all the time so do they have built up community is it the older population because the lungs have been living in years and decades of pollution that's weakening the immune systems, we don't exactly know but it's certain that it is absolutely significantly more severe in the elderly population. children do not seem to be the investigatore vectors, children are absolutely vectors when it comes to the flu. the reason to close schools right now is to protect those and them. not necessarily the children because our children are seemingly healthy through this. >> sean: very helpful information, doctors, thank you for being with us.
