so sergeant thomas d. evans was 19 years old in 1864. he was five feet seven and a half inches tall. i love how specific it is in his military documentation. he's described as having a light complexion brown eyes auburn hair and he had been a carpenter prior to to his enlistment in 1862. now i found thomas evans's journal when i was doing research at the huntington library in san marino, california, and i was interested because i knew he wrote some journal entries about the new market campaign. he served in the 14th, pennsylvania cavalry. and it was interesting what he wrote about new market, i did end up using a quote. in call out the cadets, which was the book i did on the subject. but as i kept reading i discovered that he was wounded during the lynchburg campaign and unfortunately my research time for that day ran out and i didn't know what happened to him and fortunately i had another day in that research session and i made sure that i finished reading because i had to know what happened to this guy. did he survive and what was it l
