it appears to be south of d.c.. it started earlier this evening. we are getting a little bit of the action. there are big changes on the way. later tonight and into the morning hours. the cold front continues to drop. that is all the moisture that will arrive. be here early tomorrow morning. there will be a transition from rain to ice to freezing rain. we could see significant sleet accumulation. especially around 11:00 at night. that is where we will see the transition from sleep to snow. the snow may fall at a rate of one inch per hour. this is our best estimate right now in terms of the snowfall totals. the district, montgomery county, frederick county, all will experience 4-6 inches. southern maryland may get 6-10 inches. that is not out of the question. there may be pockets within these bands that see an inch or two more. the sleet to snow transition will be difficult. more and the forecast is coming up. quite the approaching storm has prompted several jurisdictions do declare a snow emergency. one mayor declared a snow emergency at 4:00 p.m.
