d.c. will be open for his supporters to watch the ceremony live. then the newly inaugurated president will arrive at the arena for the presidential parade. police are preparing for the possibility of protests are in and around the inauguration. during president trump's first inauguration in 2017, d.c. police rounded up hundreds of people in a mass arrest. nbc's amy cho joins us with the changes the police are making to their arrest policies, and what we could expect to see on monday. let us go. let us go. january 2017. this was the scene just two miles away from president trump's inauguration. you all have been arrested. d.c. police used chemical sprays as they rounded up and arrested more than 200 people that day. more than 100 leaders sued the district, saying they were peacefully protesting or observing and were detained for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. the people suing so tightly they lost feeling ind their hands and they didn't get access to food, water or bathrooms for

and that does include washington, d.c. so you can see late in the half, latter half of the day tomorrow through the evening and early overnight hours, you're going to see some snow. what this means is, while the snow itself will be out in time for the inauguration festivities, it's going to be so cold that snow is not going to melt away. so you're going to have the snow still around these areas, not to mention mixed in with all of those very cold temperatures. most of these areas looking at maybe about 2 to 4in. but you'll see this purple band that kind of cuts through here. this is where we're talking about four, five even perhaps as much as six inches of snow. and again, the key thing here is that with all of those incredibly cold temperatures, the snow is going to stick around. for example, look at dc high of only 25 on monday 24, tuesday 22 on wednesday and 30 on thursday. so again, that snow, whatever they end up getting is going to stick around. >> all right, tis the season. it usually is very cold on inauguration. i

but that's raising concerns in a community far away from washington, d.c., residents are still living with the fallout from america's first nuclear weapons test. our special contributor, joey chen, traveled to southern new mexico to hear their story. it was early in the morning of july 16th, 1945, when the illusion of peace here in the tularosa basin was shattered. we woke up with a boom, a big boom. the world's first detonation of a nuclear explosive. the trinity test, took place at what was then known as the alamogordo bombing range, roughly 35 miles from the town of tularosa, where 13 year old lucy benavides and her family were startled awake. it shook like it shook the house, and my mother jumped out of bed and she said, quÉ paso? what happened? no one here knew an earthquake, perhaps. or maybe an explosion in a nearby air base. there was no warning, no warning, no nothing. it wasn't until after hiroshima that the town learned the huge booms role in ending the war. but no one warned the community of the possibility of long term consequences. we just knew that it was the atom bomb.
