and that's why we have the winter weather advisory in effect in the purple. prince george's, lower montgomery, washington around the d.c. metro area, alexandria, arlington counties, fairfax county and points to the west. in the pink here, this is the winter storm warning in effect. it's northern montgomery county, howard, anne arundel, back towards frederick, that in effect at 10:00 tonight. here is the rain. anytime you see a doughnut like this, that tells us the atmosphere is just a little too dry. we're not seeing too much of this fall to the ground but it will develop and move in as rain later on this evening. what's happening right here? well, it's not just one storm. there's more like three storms. one around st. louis, one south of cincinnati, another one moving up towards the great lakes. and how these storms develop as they move and rotate really around each other, that has a big determination on how much snow we're going to see in our region. that's why this is a tough forecast out there. temperatures going to be on the mild side early. we're expecting to see the rain first and then the change over to snow. again, the temperatures are the big deal here

more than two months after af montgomery county police office was hit by a car and killed on the job, a suspect is behind bars. we'll tell you how that happened. plus, are d.c. employees closer to being granted paid family leave? there is a proposal onro the table that will give them up to 12 weeks off. the latest development is next at 11. > a marathon meeting in theho district and it is still goingt on at this hour at 11:14. city council is holding a public hearing on a proposal that would require employers to grant 12 weeks of paid time off to employees. more than 100 people were at the meeting when it start afternoon. some mothers even p brought their babies with them as they e waited to speak and explain whyn this proposal is important to them. council chair phil mendelson will improve this paid time off bill. i believe that this legislationt is important. it could make a difference in terms of making the district moreg attractive for folks to come to live and work in the in district. in turn, that would make the district more attractive for businesses to locate and operate in the district. in order for that to happen we have to strike the right balanc

snow we saw, a lot less through the north, inch and a half to the north of frederick, four inches in parts of montgomery county, bethesda, in towards d.c. up to nine inches though down to the south. down toward southern maryland, fredericksburg, spotsylvania county, 8 to 9 inches. that's where the bull's-eye was. the snow is out of here for the most part. still some snow along i-81, hagerstown to winchester and martinsburg. in the d.c. metro area it's just areas of freezing rain. not a lot. most of it is on the light side and that will continue. a lot of drizzle across the too, and that's going to be the case through the night tonight. anything that does fall though will fall as rain and then freeze on contact. that's what freezing rain is, and that's why we still have that winter storm warning in effect for everybody here in the pink. winter weather advisory including montgomery county, howard county, and arn arundel county. we're going to be talking about delays. we already have school cancellations. the next part of this storm, guys, we get another batch of kind of severe weather early tomorrow morning. we'll break that down for you

d.c. right on the edge of that snow. it's falling in delaware and into south jersey. there, just a few light snowflakes moving through philadelphia into montgomery and bucks county.adier snow comes in this afternoon. you'll see it at 1:00 this afternoon. by then we'll have an inch or so on the ground for philadelphia, wilmington, into south jersey. the accumulation will continue into the afternoon hours, 1 to 2 inches for philadelphia and wilmington. see a bit more in allentown and reading. but as we go into the evening, that is rain that's moving in, atmosphere is going to warm up significantly with this storm. the ground will still be frozen and that could lead to icing. a big threat for this evening. then tomorrow, the threat will be heavy rain. temperatures will be way above freezing. by noontime, look at the rain moving in from the west. they'll sweep through during the afternoon hours. 1 inch, 2 inches or more of rainfall and that could lead to localized flooding. for today, you'll see snow developing and then a brief period of sleet and the potential, the threat of freezing rain late this afternoon and into this evening. the temperatures will be climbing.
