baltimore. kind of the halfway point between d.c. and baltimore. we get straight to msnbc's kasie hunt on the scene with the latest. kasie, what's the update from there? >> reporter: hi, thomas. well, at this point, we know that the fbi is investigating along with the nsa police and other authorities. they are together collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to try and decide whether federal charges should be filed in this incident. so we know that shortly after 9:00 this morning, 2 people in the car dressed as women, two men, excuse me, in a car dressed as women, tried to ram the gate to the nsa which is a sprawling campus just off of 295. the baltimore washington parkway. about 20 miles north of washington, d.c. the guard here engaged with those two people. we know one of them was killed and another one was injured in what result in that altercation. we saw some helicopter footage from up above that showed one of them being put into an ambulance. so at this stage, we're not sure exactly what the motivation was. with do know that drugs and

you're driving i 95 this morning from southern connecticut and down through philadelphia and baltimore and d.cs are on. it will improve as the day goes on. also the outer banks, you're going to think there's a tropical storm. a lot of heavy rain. showers in charlotte. and down in florida, storms rolling through fort myers a little bit ago. just about approaching there. there's some lightning with this too and that's going to move across the sun shine state and west palm beach. not a lot of stormy weather. we get rid of this mess throughout the day but we have a lot of extreme temperature. for the most part this is the pattern we've been in all winter long. here's when the jetstream controls the weather. we have a big ridge in the west a big dip in the jetstream in the east and because of that it allows the cold air to come down from canada. 38 through saturday. the great lakes are raw and chilly into saturday but in the west 24 record highs yesterday including seattle and portland. we're going to continue with the warm area. we continue this very unusual weather pattern. it's been for the most

we are seeing snow in baltimore, washington, d.c. is mostly rain right now mixed with snow. little if any accumulation is expected there. the higher totals will come this afternoon. looks like harrisburg to philadelphia to trenton to new york city, enough that we're going to have to get the plows out. especially the secondary roads. many of the treated roads and surfaces should be just fine. the worst airport effects are in the afternoon. here's how we're looking across the country today. admit of the country's fine. once again, montana, beautiful at 70. no problems throughout much of the west. back to normal in phoenix at 82. a lot of rain there in texas. as we take you through your weekend forecast the eastern storm leaves quickly. admit of the country is quiet a lot of rain in the south, and we are going to watch wet weather and rain in the northwest especially as we go throughout the next 24 to 48 hours. even into sunday no problems l.a. beautiful at 75. looking at the extended forecast, we get very warm in much of the west nevada, california, about a week from now. mayb
