d.c. fire truck collided into a metro b in northwest d.c. this morning. the accident happene here at 14th and madison near rock creek park at about 10:15. the fire truck was responding to pedestrian accident on 13th and madison when it collided into the metro bus. all 18 people aboard the bus including the driver and four firefighters from the truck were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the fire department tell us, the fire truck's lights and sirens weron but a resident from 14th street says he heard the fire truck sirens only seconds before the crash. >> usually i can hear from 16th street coming dn. i saw the bus moving. i saw the bus right away. and i heard -- like in 15 seconds of smash. >> the fire department is investigating the crash. the pedestrian the truck was @ responding to was taken to the hospital with serious but nonlife threatening injuries. >>> a montgomery county police officer was involved in a two-car accident this morning. here's a look from chopper 4. the accident happened ad redland road and crabs branch way at 9:35. police

it appears he was contracted to be a driver for metro access are rounded d.c. region. it did not take long for the swat team to surround this massive hospital campus. at about 1:30 p.m. this afternoon, the tactical team made their way into the room where he had barricaded himself, but they found him and his sick mother dead, both shot in the head. >> it appeared he was not willing to negotiate and did not wait for swat teams to move in. police say he killed his ill mother and then himself. >> we understand that pardus was being briefed by his mother's doctor about her condition. >> he became emotionally distraught. >> that is when authorities say he responded by pulling out a semi-automatic handgun and shot the physician in the lower chest. he then lock themselves in the room where his mother was confined to a bed. >> it did not make sense. >> the entire eighth floor of the nelson building was evacuated and portions of the massive hospital were put on lockdown. >> it was a very horrible experience because i did not know if he was going to take a child or anything. >> b

metro bus. >> a very active crash scene here at 14th and madison streets in far of the northwest d.c.. you can see behind me a fire truck has slammed into the side of a metro bus. we understand the fire truck was responding to a call about 10:00 this morning, traveling east on madison and apparently went through the south side, striking the metro bus broadside. as many as 22 people have been taken to area hospitals to be checked out. we are told none of the injuries is life-threatening. mostly back and neck injuries and some cuts and bruises. among those 22, four firefighters also taken to the hospital. according to witnesses, the fire truck did have its siren on. there is no explanation for how the accident occurred, but we understand from investigators that it is a very active investigation. they are trying to determine what transpired or who was at fault. again, collision between a fire truck and metro bus. as many as 22 people taken to the hospital but no life- threatening injuries. >> that is the good news. thank you very much for the latest there in d.c. meanwhile, the big news of

d.c. how much was the metro ride for you this morning? guest: it is 8 miles from where we are right now. my ride this morning -- because it was the peak of the peak, my ride was $3.60. i use what is called a smart card and my smart card enables me to load a certain amount of money on to that card and i use it every day, so i do not have to fumble for change or dollar bills every day. also, i'm fortunate to have an employer would takes advantage of federal tax law. many people know that their employer can give them free parking, but it is only in recent years that an employer can give free transit service and have the same tax treatment as free parking. my employer is able to provide me with about $130 per month to help offset by commuting costs. that particular law is set to expire at the end of december and one thing we are working on with congress is to make sure that there continues to be equal treatment between commuter parking and commuter transit benefits. host: two more calls. surely is joining us from iowa -- shirley is joining us from iowa. caller: i would like to make a comment
