d.c. police telling us the man shot in southeast was hit in the stomach, was conscious and was breathing when he went to the hospital. no word on suspects. police scoured that scene there in southeast d.c., frederick douglas place where all of this happened. then around the same time, another shooting in northeast on florida avenue. that victim was conscious and breathing when they found him. we had a chance to look over the numbers that d.c. police put out about the numbers of murders this year alone. 94 in the capital city compared to 72 last year around the same time. d.c. police say they have made some progress in arresting suspects. >> well, we'll check in with molette throughout the hour. >>> police in northwest d.c. put out new surveillance video. take a look at your screen here. this is related to a deadly shooting. the six different men with all persons of interest in a shooting that happened on 7th street northwest last weekend. police say a gunfight broke out by the shaw metro station.

sunday is when the d.c. police union will tally the results of a surae of its members, known as a vote of no confidence on chief cathy lanier. during the past few months as the district's homicide rate climbed to 40% higher than the same time last year, the chief and the union have become increasingly at odds over a solution. rank and file officers question the dismantling of vice units, and take issue with what is known as posts that prevent them from leaving a certain area. >> i take it seriously. i talk to officers every single day. i've been in this department for 25 years. i don't think the union speaks for every police officer, but they are the representation for police members. so it is their right to implement the survey and see what residents think. >> reporter: at least one member gave a thumbs-up to the show of force. ben goodman tweeted seven cop cars in my neighborhood tonight. no incident, just d.c. police introducing themselves. appreciated. and to put this in perspective, one year ago, chief lanier

d.c. police chief later confirmed to us then that the man that is inside allegedly shot and killed one of his family members. we're not exactly quite sure how these two are related, but the police chief did say that they are investigating this homicide. this is now the 99th homicide. after speaking to several people in the area what neighbors are telling us is that this man had talked about how he had just been given an eviction notice from one of his relatives who owns the home where he's staying in. he did talk about how he was upset about that and how he had to be out at the end of the month. so again neighbors did say that that could have been a possible motive. what the police chief said to us earlier is that there was some kind of dispute between the two relatives, but again exactly what was discussed, they have not confirmed. now at this hour we are still waiting to find out exactly what is going on. the last we heard from police, they were communicating with the man inside, but we have no

dexter motley was gunned down in august of 2014 in northeast d.c. police arrested a man back in july tied to that crime and charged him with murder, but yesterday police said they made a second arrest. they arrested a man named darnell cruz and he's been charged with first degree murder. police say this homicide was the result of a dispute involving the victim and the suspect. they say that case is closed now and they have a second suspect in custody. the other case that they announced an arrest on was for a stabbing death that happened monday afternoon around 4 p.m. on a busy intersection on h street northeast. it left one man named eric smith dead. police say they arrested hector felix at his home today at 1 p.m. without any problems and told us a little more exactly what happened monday afternoon. take a listen. >> there was a dispute as passengers were boarding the metrobus. a fight broke out during the course of that -- out. during the course of that fight, another individual, the suspect who we arrested, was believed to have come up and

d.c. police have been cracking down on prostitution for over a month. they've arrested 199 people there in total. new developments in the trial of jeffrey matthew who will be tried next summer for abducting and killing u.v.a. student graham. he has to wear shackles during the trial. the defense moved to have him wear his personal clothing and be unrae restrained and they tried to bar people from wearing anything that showed support for graham in the croom. the judge tossed out that motion as well. a last-ditch effort to keep former governor mcdonald out of prison, they've asked chief justice john roberts to remain free during his appeal. mcdonald was convicted on 11 corruption charges and sentenced to two years in prison. today a court of appeals refused to let him remain free during his appeal. we expect a decision from the supreme court in a few weeks an of course we'll let you know what we hear. a big night for redskins fans. they took on the lions in their first game at fed ex but be fore the end of the first half, once again, same old scene, rgiii

d.c. police have an apartment complex surrounded after finding a man's body. >> we don't need to tell you police have been busy with the spike in violent crime these past several weeks. the investigation centered on stanton road. derek ward just arriving on the scene. what have you learned? >> reporter: well, i can tell you this all started at about 7:30 this morning, and it's focusing on a grassy wooded area wean t between the apartmentings. on the other side of the woods, behind this building, a woman was out walking her dog. she came upon a body. we're only being told as the body of a male. we don't have an age, and there appears to be a gunshot wound. whether that is the cause of death or not will be determined by the coroner, but the police and homicide detectives have been spending a lot of time trying to collect whatever evidence they can and a lot of people from the complex are out. things like this lead to frustration and fear but mainly frustration. >> they need to be on the street. the

d.c. police chief tells us that a woman was shot and killed here. now, police say the man that fired those shots is a relative and he's the man inside of his home right now. and, again, the police chief did tell us that there was a family dispute and that's what led to all of this. now, we have been here on the scene for hours, pretty much all day. s.w.a.t. and police have also been here, as you can see they have been waiting outside. we have heard them in the last hour communicating from the outside. at this point we don't know whether or not the man inside of the house is communicating back but we have heard them, there's been a little bit of movement, some s.w.a.t. members going in and out, one truck did move here in the last 20 minutes. but again, no word on if the man inside has responded and at this point we know very little about the man and as far as the victim goes, the openly thing we have heard -- only thing we have heard from neighbors is she is a middle aged woman. >> the wait continues and we will of course continue to monitor this situ
