he wants an additional $53 million for maryland, d.c., and virginia.d accelerate the national safety board's recommended improvements for metro. the rebuilding of metro, and also that car replacement work they've been doing. and here's what he's proposing for riders. let's start with smartcard users. he want to eliminate the peak of peak or p.o.p. surcharge and wants to make the surcharge less than 5% with a maximum fare of $5.75. he wants to increase base off-peak fares to $1.70 a trip. the maximum off-peak fare being $3.50. there's also a change for paper fare card pricing, a $6 flat rate during peak periods and $4 for off peak. he also wants to eliminate the short-trip pass and day pass. he says that will make it simpler to understand. here are the proposed changes for bus riders. increased smart-trip local fares by a dime from $1.50 to $1.60. if it costs $2 for limited stops, $4 for the express bus. there's also a proposal to increase parking fees by 25 cents. he's saying that we should get $66 million in additional revenue from metro if his propos
