so we reached out to d.p.w. and the planning department to see if there were any legislative policy changes we could make, and when we did that, we discovered that a lot of our colleagues had been fielding similar complaints from their constituents so we got involved in a series of stakeholder workshops and meetings to try to see if we could find a legislative solution and eventually we wound up being the lead sponsors for the legislation that you had before you today. there has been interest by many of our colleagues that you will see supervisor east are co-sponsorses and they have been tracking the progress and gotten a lot of interest out of their constituents as well. so it addresses not just our constituents' concerns but obviously across the city. and so what you have before you today is a result of numerous stakeholder meetings and conversations between our office and other supervisors' offices, d.p.w., the planning department, advocacy organizations and neighborhood associations as well as industry repre

and the d.p.w. are working to improve communications around the permit process. this is an agenda item that marginally comes up with the small business commission. i'm a member of the subcommittee called the permitting committee. one of the things that we are trying to implement is some sort of an improvment to the overall permitting process for anybody trying to open up a small business in san francisco ordeal with permitting processes in any way, whether it's a developer or somebody or whatever. so i think it ties in with that. it also tied in to a discussion about the online permitting system. i noted with interest that you have the ability, director, right now to put electronically format the process for departments today without any need for software coming in or new applications brought in. i thought this was pretty significant. and i thought it would be great if you could have this on the same system in every other department. that would be a great step forward. the mayor was talking about implementing a new group task force that would get involved with im

we gave a lot of advice to d.p.w. as they were working on it. i'm so proud of the work. happy to the with the mayor and supervisor maxwell and the partners in the community to make this something. a few facts about why it is important to us. you see the lights here. those are l.e.d. lights, providing better height for the community and it saves 60% of the electricity it would take to light normal streetlights. this sidewalk and -- there's only a few blocks here. you're talking about. but the perm i can't believe pavement, that means five -- 500,000 gallons of water per year that used to go in the waste water treatment plant won't, it will go back in the ground water and recharge and can be used for other things. you do that across the city and you could change the way we treat storm water. the amount of money we spent on pumping the water, all that changes. in the waste water improvement program, we're looking at taking 1% of the city per year and take it from hard escapes to this kind of -- this kind of look with the pavement. it'll make a dramatic change in san francis
