da lin has more. >> reporter: surveillance footage shows two people harassing, tacking, and threatening a worker for 8 minutes. ruth, better known as ruthie, says it was the longest eight minutes of her life. >> i was very afraid. and i'm still afraid. >> it happened last saturday just after 7:00 p.m. at the laundromat near lake mary. ruthie told the two women they close at 8:00 p.m. and last washes at 6:30. she pointed to the sign on the wall. surveillance footage shows they left with the clothes. they returned about 40 minutes later. she says they started harassing her, saying their closer missing. she kept telling them that she doesn't have a close. again, here is video of the women earlier taking their clothes and leaving the laundromat. surveillance footage shows the woman in the black hat grabbing ruthie by her neck area, driving her around, shoving her to the ground multiple times, and punching her 3-4 times. >> they punched me again, hard enough that my nose was bleeding. i saw stars. i saw lights because they hit me so hard. >> reporter: another punch landed right on her face .

da lin with the video and her story. >> reporter: surveillance footage shows two women rising, threatening and attacking a long time laundromat worker for eight minutes. ruthie said it was the longest eight minutes of her life. >> i was very afraid. and i am still afraid. >> reporter: it happened last saturday just after 7:00 p.m. at woody's laundromat near lake merritt. ruthie told the two women they closed at 8:00 p.m. and lost washes at 6:30. she pointed to the sign on the wall. surveillance footage shows they left with the clothes . they returned about 40 minutes later. ruthie says they started harassing her saying their clothes were missing. ruthie said she kept telling them she does not have the clothes. here is video of the women earlier taking their clothes and leaving the laundromat. surveillance footage shows the woman in the black hat grabbing ruthie by her neck area, dragging her around, shoving her to the ground a couple times. and punching her three to four times. >> they punched me again and hard enough that my nose was bleeding. i saw stars. and lights. they hit me so hard.

one recent crime victim tells our da lin the move is welcome news. >> reporter: spent a few hours here around. the companies that pay for the extra patrols say it will help everyone who works, lives, and shops here. >> i love my job. i love serving the people. >> reporter: social worker nancy henway spends a lot of her time in oakland driving from one home visit to the next. last monday morning near lake merritt she was stopped at a red light on her way to a client's house when someone shattered her passenger window. >> and he reached in and grabbed my big bag, my work bag, which have my laptop, my phones, my wallet, everything, my client's information, everything and just ran off that way, the opposite way, while i was so nervous, scared, frozen. >> reporter: nancy yelled and honked but says the teenager was gone. >> i was so surprised and shocked that this happened right here at lakeshore, a really busy street with people walking everywhere. >> reporter: nancy is not alone. oakland police recorded about 3,700 robberies and 17,000 burglaries in 2023. some of the victims include downto

. >> da lin has the story, and he says not everybody is on board with this. >> reporter: a brazen freeway shooting caught on camera. the chp says it happened wednesday afternoon on 880 in union city. investigators say it was road rage. the bullet did not hit the victim but shattered glass caused minor injuries. with good footage, detectives arrested this man within 24 hours. >> it has to have a deterrent effect because if they know that the cameras are there, who wants to put their dirt on film? >> reporter: alicia benton says the quick arrest is also why she supports the installation of 480 cameras in oakland and on freeways. someone shot and killed her daughter, amani morris, back in november 2021 near the bay bridge toll plaza. amani's two boy, ages 3 and 5, were sitting in the back. >> it was senseless. no child should ever see that. to see your mother's head blown. >> reporter: the two boys now live with her in georgia. the case not solved, and she says the pain is still indescribable. >> you can be doing good like one day and the next minute you're in tears. and it could be a smell.

da lin will have the latest on the investigation coming up at 11:00. >>> over in the south bay, a big drug and weapons bust led by san jose police. officers served a warrant at a music studio where they suspect drug witness dealt. they did find illegally owned guns and drugs. >>> a shootout on 780 that started when police stopped a vehicle involved in an armed robbery. suspects in the vehicle fired shots, officers fired back. two are now in custody. no injuries reported. >>> a major freeway closure in effect for the entire weekend. caltrans is finally starting a repaving project on interstate 680 in pleasanton. that's been pushed ba twice because of rain. this stretch of southbound 680 is closed from the 580 connecter to koopman road. various on and off-ramps are also shut down. that means the southern flow of traffic will be shut off across pleasanton down to sunol. the closure comes as dublin is hosting its 40th saint patrick's day celebration this weekend. >> we've personally publicized this so that people are aware that this closure is happening. so we don't want any surprises. >>
