i do work at daas as well as muni so try to help out. the paratransit and transportation of the disabled is a very big issue and i think it probably is the one we need to look at next to see how we can do it and then talk to folks about the adult day health care centers, how long people are in the centers, more than two hours. by state law it's supposed to be an hour, hour and a half at the most. that's very hard to people. i would be very eager, my fellow commissioners and staff, to look at ways we can better serve the people you serve and we all serve. >> first off, emmett and tom, thank you for taking the time to come in. i want to say both as a member of the commission and part of an organization that serves so many aging adults and people with disabilities, i think it's an innovative and truly wonderful idea and service the people of this city and mta have come up with. i think it represents what we want the spirit of our community and city to be. the estimate i heard was 25,000 folks, i think it's impressive and epitomizes the need

i thank you for the consent agenda for funding for the sga for projects we worked on with daas. second is another thank you for your support of free muni. i see some mta folks here, i don't know if they are going to announce it, i don't want to steal anyone's thunder. it was approved. we are very excited, lots of people are signing up already and if you want to spread the word please send people to the mta web site, it's easy to find under i think it's free and discount passes or something or you can look at our web site, sga.org and it's all there. we do need to spread the word that you need to apply. you can't expect to just get on the bus and ride for free but you need to apply and have your senior clipper card or senior saver card tagged. i wanted to make sure everyone knew about the passing of derrick jarda who was a former member of the mayor's disability council. he was a very young, energetic wonderful advocate for people with disabilities and it's a real loss to our community. then the last thing is on a more positive note, i wanted to let people know sga is doing a poe

so if there's a request like that it goes through to either our daas integrated intake unit or it can go through to one of the service providers that they can do the intake. there is a, we have a centralized intake system actually. the staff would ask for all the different pertinent questions, find out what the need is, and then based on that screening the client is then prioritized. they are weighted, there's a score that is given to that consumer based on if they have a lot of, they have no support, they have a lot of health problems, they are in dire need of supplemental food, the score would be much higher. so currently once the client is screened to be eligible for home-delivered meal then when there is an opening at any of our home-delivered meal provider, they will go to this centralized home-delivered meal waiting list, find out which -- look at the districts that they serve because not all the home-delivered meal providers serve all districts. so let's say if they serve only sunset and richmond they will look at the supervisor district for those neighborhoods, find out who's

as a response to that hearing, the mayor as well as the board of supervisors provided daas with a large amount of add back money and the amount we are adding to the meal services and home groceries is 4.8 million. and this is to help expand the home delivery meal program because we currently have a little over 200 people on the waiting list. with this funding a large percentage of this funding is to help expand the home delivery so we can reduce the waiting time and our goal is to serve people with emergency needs within two to five days -- i'm sorry -- yes, two to 5 days, then those with other more moderate needs within 30 days. and if you can look at the, want to give you some highlights of where some of the increases are with this funding. so with this funding, with the congregate meal program for seniors, congregate program is for seniors who are mobile and able to go to senior center, they have access to other activities that can help them stay better connected, reduce social isolation. with this funding we are able to add three new sites. director hinton had mentioned there was a

in human services agency is where we at daas have all of our infrastructure and the beauty of that merger was that there was already an established entity in all those areas that i mentioned plus a few others. so we have over these last many years really been able to draw from that well-established infrastructure. mergers are not without its ups and downs, people have to sort out roles and figure out who's been doing what and who has to do it now, new systems get developed and new systems learned. i think for me this particular review, all of the great comments from the state about how well our systems are in place as well as the interface of program assistance was really quite a compliment to all the staff. so i'd really like the folks who are here from those programs, who worked on it -- finance, contract and budget -- to please stand and let everyone know who, i know they are not all here today but i know that martha is here, david, you are here, we've got other folks from contracts and program and i'd just really like everyone to know (applause). some of them have won employee of the
