dagen: mr.u giving canada? is it literally this friday? is that all the time canada's going to have to step up? >> well, we need to get our process rolling. under the tpa process, there are lengthy negotiating periods before -- after which you have to get consent of congress to go forward with. so it's pretty important that we file something very, very promptly, and that might be as simple as to say we have a deal with mexico, we hope canada will come in, but if not, we're going ahead with it anyway. so that's one possible filing. the other possible filing would be a three-way one. dagen: "the wall street journal," i want to get your reaction to this, the editorial page writing a response to the trade deal. the title of the editorial is "half a nafta." and here's just a little some of what the editorial page writes: this deal contains some improvements but is notably worse in many ways. so worse than the original nafta agreement. they go through one problem they say the bilateral deal strips cur

dagen: jon, it's dagen.a lot of what we talk about, negative impact on tariffs, on american businesses, on say steel and aluminum consuming businesses, has been anecdotal, have you seen broad economic data or evidence of impact of these tariffs? we tend to focus on what's going on with china the total $50 billion imported goods, china retaliating there. but it's really those steel and aluminum tariffs that could have a serious impact on manufacturing here in the united states in a negative way. >> well, so i've looked at the steel and aluminum numbers, certainly aluminum prices up, that's hitting corporate profit margins that's showing up a little bit in small slivers of inflation, one of the things going on with steel and aluminum, the argument when you increase cost of imported goods, should be lifting domestic production of steel and aluminum and you don't see a very large increase in domestic steel and aluminum production. you know, there's numbers coming out later this morning durable goods orders at 8:
