dagen is on that capital spending outlook this morning. dagen: good morning.nt page of the wall street journal today. spending on things like factories, equipment and other capital goods slowed in the first quarter, among a large, broad section of u.s. corporations, a lot of these executives blaming the uncertainty about our trading relationship with china. take a look at these figures. we have a chart for you. capital spending rose 3% from a year earlier in the first quarter. this is 356 s&p 500 companies that have reported so far. last year, that is down from a 20% rise, that chart is wrong. it was up 20% in the yow period. no-- inthe year-ago period. now it's up just 3%. many companies said china is the real problem, it's made them and their customers cautious. what does this mean for the broad economy? again, big trends in capital spending are closely watched by many analysts and investors. they look at these longer term investments by big companies as one of the most important sources of future economic growth. if you look at the top -- the 10 firms a tha

dagen's on that this morning. dagen: good morning.apple is promising to fix its macbook keyboard. the issue is the butterfly keyboard. it's meant to be low profile and very fancy and guess what, third generation and they still don't work. here are the macbook's affected, the macbook air, macbook pro. here are the problems people have been experiencing, even three generations in of these keyboards. well, the letters or characters repeat unexpectedly without your finger on the key. the characters, letters don't a appear keys feel sticky and don't respond. here's what apple is planning to do they're changing materials in the keyboard mechanism. apple didn't say whats specifically changed but it says it's going to help with the issue. also all the macbook laptops with butterfly keyboards are eligible for apple's program or covered up to four years after the original purchase. why is this a big deal? apple shipped about 40 million of these laptops just between 2016 and 2018 and the majority of them have this butterfly keyboard. the other t

dagen mcdowell is on that this morning. dagen: good morning.inventories of crude oil, despite concerns about production coming out of venezuela. the tensions with iran, rising inventories have powered an 11% drop in crude oil prices since they hit a nearly six month high in late april. u.s. stockpiles are up 8% in the first four and-a-half months of this year many you mentioned 2016, how stockpiles are climbing at the quickest pace since going back to that date. well, back then there was such a build in supplies of oil, the cost of crude dippedde dipped ba barrel. now it closed near $59 a barrel. we don't expect that kind of a price decline. this is good news for drivers. if you look at gasoline prices in the united states, $2.82 a gallon is the national average. that's lower than a year ago. it was close to $3. don't expect much more of a drop in gasoline prices. one of the problems is, there's a buildup in crude supplies because the pipelines are in the united states, getting the crude to the refineries, it's backed up. we don't have enough p
