but it's not only mississippi and north dakota.n war on abortion rights that the beltway press keeps saying is over is anything but over outside that beltway. it is actually ramped up so far this year. before this year a handful of states had gotten away with passing bans on abortion at roughly 20 weeks. i say they got away with that because under roe versus wade it's widely agreed that those laws are not constitutional. but after getting away with it in a few states now the idea is spreading this year. so far to arkansas and iowa and north dakota and virginia. republicans in ohio tried and failed to pass a ban on abortion effectively at about six weeks, which is often before a woman even knows she is pregnant. so it's effectively a total ban on most abortions. ohio republicans tried for that and failed last year. but this year they are trying it in arkansas and kentucky and mississippi and north dakota. today, in fact, that measure passed the arkansas senate by a vote of 26-8. there are also fertilized egg is a person abortion ban

he lives outside of sioux falls, south dakota. and on the appointed evening a couple weekends after i was elected, we had a conversation over meat and potatoes, a wonderful farm dinner, i asked dick what advice he would have for somebody elected now to this lofty position from the state of south dakota. he paused for a minute and then he said well, i guess if i had any advice for you, it would be two things. first, never forget where you came from. always remember who it was that sent you there. and sadly, pointing at his graduate on the wall, he said you know my grandchildren eric you have held them. you know them by name. and then he looked at me and he said, give them hope. give them some hope. i went home, and later that night i got a call during the middle of the night, that the news that dick had died. that moment, locked in memory for me, the best advice i think i had ever received in public service, to remember where we came from, and give those we represent some hope. all across america our country was founded on the prem

it is seen as likely to pass the north dakota house and to be signed into law by north dakota's republicanernor. and that is not the end of the movement to regulate abortion clinics out of existence in america. this week a new trap law measure passed through the republican-controlled house in alabama. it's now headed to the alabama senate. the new rules targeting abortion clinics in the state come with a bunch of new building codes that would force most clinics to do extensive renovations that they may not be able to afford. and doctors who perform abortions would suddenly be required to have admitting privileges at a local hospital. now abortion clinics in alabama are already required to at least contract with a doctor who has admitting privileges. so each clinic in the state already has a relationship with a doctor who has hospital admitting privileges. but now says the legislature's anti-abortion republican majority, now that will no longer be enough. now the specific doctor who provides the abortion has to be the doctor who has admitting privileges locally. one democratic opposed to th
