we are extraordinarily proud of sergeant dakota meyer. today is only the third time during the wars in afghanistan and iraq that a recipient of the medal of honor has been able to accept it in person, and we are honored to be joined by one of the other to recipients, sergeant first class petrie. of all the medal of honor recipients in recent decades, not to cut it is also one of the youngest. he is 23 years old, and he performed the extraordinary actions for which he is being recognized today when he was just 21 years old. despite all of this, i have to say that the code it is one of the most down to earth guys you will ever be. in fact, when my staff tried to wrench the phone call that i could tell him that he was approved for the medal of honor, he was at work at his job on the civilian construction site. he felt that he could not take the call that day because he said, "if i don't work, i don't get paid." so we arranged for him to get the call during his lunch break.
