here's colonel daley in his little shed. how do we describe him? he's sort of a 1890's bohemian, a bit of a herm yit. most importantly, he was a friend of adolph sutro's. and sutro had a real estate shack on the northwest corner of the sunset. he let colonel daley squat in there essentially. he went out every morning, walked along the beach. whatever washed up he brought back to his shed and created quite a large little compound of old bottles, shoes, anything that washed up. a ship wreck. provided a bunch of lumber. he made a sleeping loft in his cabin. for a while he had a wife. she didn't wash up in the waves. but she did eventually wash out. she couldn't handle cooking in the sandunes every night, creating a fire. so she left him sometime in the late 18920 -- 1890's. but daley took one of those cars we were talking about and opened this little coffee saloon where he sold sandwiches, doughnuts, and little items to the picnicers who came out to the beach on the weekends. and soon other people, they kind of were charmed by this little old horse ca

the editorial boards of at least two of the three major daleys are saying if anything, you should go more aggressively at this issue. this is fundamental problem. not just particular to new york which is that how much do you want the police to do? the police do have the right to stop. they have the right to intrude and make your life miserable. it is one of the trade-offs we make in a free society. but there is a feedback mechanism called community complaints and the communities have been complaining very loudly and the response from this administration has been we don't believe you. we don't care. the courts say what we're doing passes legal scrutiny and so either put up with it or expect to have lots of murders which i think most people understand it is false. >> john: it does make life harder for a lot of the nypd officers because it fosters greater mistrust, especially when 1% of the stops and frisks yield any type of firearms confiscation. yetta, is there a better alternative to this policy? >> let me say one thing. we want to support and set our police officers up for success.

we're still awaiting the president, but here's news involving bill daley is assisting jpmorgan in rallying proposal on its approximatey to split a chairman and ceo role. i've learned he held conversations over the last week, two conversations. one last week, one early this week, with high level sources, the american federation of state, county and municipal employees who have authored the proposal on jpmorgan's proxy to try to see if a compromise was possible. i am told by people briefed on the matter that both conversations came up empty and that no compromise could be reached. jpmorgan chase could not be reached for comment before air time, but it seems jpmorgan's trying to drum up support and trying to figure out if any deal can be reached before this deal happens and that would be a good thing. >> what would a compromise be? >> we saw a compromise in the form of what happened with goldman sachs. a similar proposal was on the table, but never made it into the proxy because goldman was able to come to a compromise in which its lead outside director came to a compromise by himself. some w
