here's nbc bay area's damian trujillo. even with an increase in enrollment, san jose state is still paying the price. more cuts are looming in year 2526, just as they are across the csu system. san jose state has seen a boom in school enrollment. almost a 4% jump this year, welcoming the largest freshman class in campus history, making them an outlier in the csu system. being in the heart of silicon valley helped the university opened the college of information, data and society that is a new college at the university that focuses on ai social good things along that line. and we have students who want to come in and be a part of those programs. many other universities in the csu system are seeing the opposite big declines in student enrollment. administrators feel the declining birth rate and the declining enrollment we've seen in california elementary and middle schools is now beginning to hit the university system. edsource reports that system wide enrollment is almost 3% lower than a decade ago. that means cuts are now

damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. governor newsom is releasing another $900 million to help cities and counties fight homelessness. but the millions do come with some strings attached. along with the funding, newsom is unveiling a new website where people can track their county's progress. newsom said the website is to help ensure that state homeless dollars are spent wisely. a recent study by stanford's hoover institution found california spent $24 billion on the unhoused over the past five years, but homelessness grew by six fold without more focus on encampments. without more focus on unsheltered homeless, i am not inclined to continue to support the funding to the cities and counties. we need to see results. they just want to see their streets and sidewalks cleaned up. they want to feel safe again. they want to know that their tax dollars are being well and wisely invested. now, in order to receive this new round of funding, cities and counties must have started cleaning up the encampments, spent previous funding,

nbc's damian trujillo is there. all eyes are on the san lorenzo river here in felton today. it gave its annual scare to the locals, but some of those who live along its banks decided to stay. the san lorenzo river gets a lot of runoff from the santa cruz mountains. add to that the atmospheric river that just hit, and the santa cruz county sheriff's office says it had no choice. we issued a mandatory evacuation order for the felton grove area. that is a very low lying area, flood prone area, but many residents declined the order. one resident told me off camera that this happens every year, and they know what to do because they're prepared, because they're used to it. they it happens every every year, every couple of years. but if you go down there, it's pretty, you know, the river is coming up quickly. so by noon the streets were seen standing water, but the san lorenzo was still within its banks, so residents stayed. that is the decision that is ultimately up to them. we can we can give orders and advice and advisories, but it is ultimately up to the families. the sheriff's
