damian trujillo, who will be leaving levi's stadium right after he puts down that microphone. k you, damian. >>> we talked about the concerts. taylor swift going to take the stage in about 45 minutes. this is our first look now inside the stadium from one of the opening acts. look at this. it's already jam-packed inside, so two opening acts and then taylor swift. it's going to be a long night, a great night, a memorable night for a lot of people at that stadium. so when will taylor swift take the stage? we turn to her recent concerts in seattle just a few nights ago for some answers. taylor swift took the stage around 7:50 p.m. and played for 3 hours and 25 minutes ending at 11:15 at night. if that happens at levi's, that would push the concert a little past the 11:00 p.m. curfew which we've heard a lot about. if there is a fine, it likely won't be that much. previous fines at levi's are around $1,000. taylor swift plays an average of 44 songs, which includes big hits from all of her 10 albums. there is another concert tomorrow. we have a full guide of the show on our website,

damian trujillo has the story. >> reporter: the incident happened here one week ago today. the store took swift action when they found out about it. street vendors say this is one of many confrontations they've had to face. the video shows two guards approaching the vendor. >> if you don't leave i will put you under arrest. >> reporter: signs are posted sayihis is private property but this is where day workers and other vendors congregate daily. what happened next is what made the video go viral. one the guards appears to kick over the vendor's strawberries. the other guard calls police and says this. >> they're ganged up and refusing to leave and calling their friends for help. >> reporter: the guard tells the dispatcher the vendor and his friend could have hidden weapons. >> these two security guards not only kicking the fruit to the floor is unacceptable but the taunting, the false accusations could have gotten not only the vendor hurt. >> reporter: a national street vendor advocate who posts videos of street vendors when he feels they're being harassed. most go viral. >

here's nbc's damian trujillo. >> reporter: one victim told me a community service officer told him there were 40 victims here in the willow glen neighborhood. many like this. the front passenger window smashed. in some cases, some items were taken. in others, nothing was stolen. police are investigating this rash of vandalism here in the willow glen community. one victim told me that it's not really a big deal. i mean it's not the end of the world, he said, but it is an inconvenience. so up and down this willow glen community, you're going to see a lot of cars like this, windows smashed. surveillance video shows a small white suv speeding away from one of the areas. that's probably one of the investigatory parts that police will be taking a look at. we are in willow glen. i'm damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. >> so many of us have been through that exact problem. >>> let's move on now. a troubling trend in the bay area. more people having difficulties paying for basic needs. united way says calls for help to pay utility bills like electricity and gas are skyrocketing. last month, unite

nbc bay area's damian trujillo is taking a closer look. >> veterans say this will be a big deal for them, a chance to be forgiven for mistakes made as a result of war. they gather at sandy's cafe in gilroy, vietnam veterans talking about the battles they were in and perhaps the scars that haven't healed. >> infantry and on the ground in the jungle. up in the mountains. we saw a lot of combat. >> reporter: this man retired as a command sergeant major but like many combat veterans who witnessed the horrors of war he turned to drinking accumulating a few duis just like some of his buddies. >> it was hard to forget what happened in the war. losing all the friends we lost. so a lot of guys went to a lot of different ways of trying to comfort their minds and forget and in doing so committed crimes. >> reporter: he says he was lucky he met judge stephen manly who runs the veterans court for the county. the judge reviewed his case and expunged his dui record. this weekend that same judge will be at the veterans resource fair called the stand down. >> he will be reviewing records of veterans who

damian trujillo is at the county shelter in san martin to show us just how bad the crisis has become. >> there are dogs in immediate danger but certainly not the only ones at risk. the director here says people need to stop abandoning their pets. >> chasing balls is one of darla's favorite activities. today she took over the play area at the santa clara animal shelter and as excited as she is, today might be her last day. >> it's really sad. we have pleaded and pleaded, like i said, out to the community, about our situation and about how overcapacity we are. >> reporter: the shelter is in code red, meaning capacity has reached such a crisis point that some dogs will have to be euthanized today. that includes darla. her friend, rio is also on the list, and so is milagro down the hall. >> being overcapacity, we're identifying dogs that are a little bit harder with behavior issues that we really need people to step up and take to avoid having to put those dogs to sleep. >> reporter: gina halek is here to help clear the shelter, but unfortunately, they're not on her list. >> i need smalle

nbc bay area's damian trujillo is back in the downtown neighborhood with a look at where things stand and what comes next. >> reporter: neighbors say they noticed a big difference over the last couple weeks and now they wonder what the long term solution might be. on thursday san jose police spent several hours in a stand off with a man who allegedly threatened officers with a knife. it happened at the same intersection where neighbors recently reported rampant drug use and sales. less than 24 hours after we aired their concerns the mayor and police chief held emergency meetings and announced a new effort in downtown. since our report neighbors say they have noticed a difference. >> i do feel safer. there's been a lot more police presence which has been nice. >> reporter: this morning officers were back telling the man sleeping on the sidewalk at the condos to move along. next week the mayor is scheduled to meet with the homeowner associations of two neighboring complexes to give them updates and outline some of the challenges the city faces. >> i would like to hear from him there is

our damian trujillo first exposed the problems at one street corner and joins us now. you've been staying on top of this for us. what is the latest? >> reporter: see for yourself. this is the intersection we've been talking about behind me, 3rd and san fernando streets. neighbors tell me around this time friday 4:30 becomes happy hour for a lot of drug dealers and users here in this area. right now a couple people wandering around. not as populated as you'd normally expect on a friday afternoon. the neighbors say they like it and feel safer because after this it becomes dark and then they start according to the neighbors harassing some of the residents, students across the street as they go into some of the establishments downtown are being harassed by some of the drug dealers and users who stand out here. they like what they see so far but it is still a work in progress. >> at least the community is liking what they see. i know you got to speak to the mayor today. what is he telling you at this point? >> reporter: he says it will take a lot of work. he likes what he s

damian trujillo spoke to swifties who are excited about the reverse of the bracelet ban, that comingin about 30 minutes. >>> parents, hear this one. a national teachers union is demanding tech companies make big changes. they say social media is to blame for mental health problems and misbehavior in classrooms around the country. nbc bay area's ian cull joins us now. ian, you spoke with teens and spoke with the union. they do have some demands? >> this is coming from the american federation of teachers. the second-largest teachers union in the country. it says in a report that social media is the root cause of the nationwide youth mental health crisis, pointing to research that kids who spend three hours a day on the apps are twice as likely to experience poor mental health, including symptoms of depression and anxiety. the union didn't have -- didn't name any company names, but it does have a series of recommendations it wants to see, including stopping phone notifications during the school day for kids, eliminating the auto-play of videos, and the infinite scrolling of feeds, and a

our damian trujillo joins us from the shelter in san martin. this is obviously a dire situation. >> yeah, audrey three dogs at the shelter are highly at risk. they have another 80 minutes of life, if you will. they're scheduled to be euthanized at 6:00 today. they simply don't have the capacity at the animal shelter in san martin, which is a county animal shelter, and these dogs, their names are darla. there's rio, and there's milagro. there's some of the bigger dogs at the shelter, those are the ones that are difficult to adopt. some might have behavioral issues, and so that's been the main reason why these dogs have been difficult to adopt, but at the same time, you know, all of these dogs the shelter tells me had owners previously. these are not street dogs. they're not stray dogs. somebody owned these dogs at one point, and at that same point, they decided to abandon those dogs, and so now they're here, and three of them, at least, are in danger of being euthanized in less than an hour and a half. >> this is so heartbreaking, damien. the cl

. >> our damian trujillo is talking to people in the neighborhood who are calling for these changes. he's going to be joining us with the full story at 6:00. >>> all right. have you heard about this battle over religious freedom in the east bay? the city of albany and a local lions club are in a legal fight right now over a cross. the two were back in the hayward hall of justice earlier this morning. what is the issue? it's this 28-foot cross you're looking at that used to be at the top of albany hill park. a member of the lions club installed it there back in 1971 when that land was privately owned. a developer later sold the land to the city, and some have felt that the cross being on public land is exclusionary. so the city removed it last month. well, this morning some people rallied outside the courthouse in support of this cross. supporters say the sale to the city included a clause requiring it to keep the cross there. >> one of the council members had been saying they just do not like the look of the cross. i think you cannot just take it down just because you don't like it.
