here's nbc's damian trujillo. immigrant communities across the bay area are on edge these days, and they're bracing for what might happen after january 20th. sandra mendoza tavares says she sometimes feels like she's walking around in a fog, wondering and worrying about what might happen to her brothers, known as dreamers. estudillo avenue sandra says her brothers are now college graduates who remain in legal limbo. like many dreamers, their parents brought them to this country as children, and they currently are considered protected from deportation. but the incoming president has said he intends to end the daca program, potentially opening up all dreamers to deportation. the good news is there is still time for president biden to do more to protect immigrants in the united states. senator alex padilla is now teaming with other democratic lawmakers in washington to lobby the biden administration to take preemptive action to protect the daca dreamers before he leaves office. a lot of dreamers applying to renew the

nbc bay area's damian trujillo has been along the county coastline all day. the waves seem to be back to normal here along the san mateo county coastline. certainly, enough for the surfers to come out. the waves that were crashing onto the coastline earlier today, but not as much later on here this afternoon. but it was quite the scene here earlier in half moon bay as people tried to jump in their cars and head out of town because of the tsunami warning, there was never an official formal evacuation order given, but the folks still wanted to get out of town. they crammed up highway 92 to go over the skyline boulevard and into the highway 280 area here in the bay area and so they wanted to get out of town. some waited on the summit there of highway 35, and just to wait it out until they could feel safe to come back into half moon bay. some stayed in town. they went up to what's called the granada hills up here, higher elevation, just to makeke sure they were safe. a couple of issues here. one was the evacuation, the self evacuation that the residents conducted

damian trujillo nbc, bay area news. a grinchy theft hasn't stopped christmas deliveries from the san francisco salvation army. overnight, thieves stole two car batteries from salvation army delivery trucks parked in a gated lot in san francisco. the salvation army says its work continues as the agency works to get replacements in time for christmas day. those two batteries will cost the agency about 6 to $800 to replace. it certainly set things back a bit. we've we've got a pretty tight timeline in order to be able to, to serve this many people. and so we've, you know, we've got great folks, good volunteers, good staff who are able to help, you know, make, make us get across the finish line. but it slowed things down more than anything. it's just disheartening to know that folks would would try and steal from an organization that's trying to do so many great things, especially at this time of year. the salvation army says donations are down and the need across the bay area is up this year. and they also tell us more vol
