damian trujillo has the story. damian?: janelle, this is the shopping center in question. sometimes they clear it out, but sometimes the homeless guy camped out on the sidewalk, the school is right down the street. but you can see they are blocked the other sidewalk over there at this time. the locals say the homeless are physically terrorizing the area. we were there during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup at the local school on lucretia avenue. each time we saw people and families having to dodge the homeless, who often take over the entire sidewalk. >> we're being tortured by them, i'll say that. >> reporter: when they're not blocking the sidewalk, the owner of the lawn dro mat says they're physically assaulting them. >> especially at night it's really dangerous. >> reporter: the cook at the local taco stand says she too has been attacked. she says she was struck in the face recently. she also accuses the homeless of stealing her tip jar several times. the clerk at the quick stop says that crime is blatantly. he sa

damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. >> >>> an arrest warrant gone wrong in san francisco today leadingath of a dog. it happened around noon on polk street on knob hill. deputies were serving an arrest warrant when the suspect's aggressive dog, according to the deputies got too close. one neighbor saw what happened. >> he refused to open the door, and the dog was a pit bull, the police officers executed a forceful entry, the dog reacted and the police officer shot him. >> reporter: the sheriff's office says the suspect was also hurt but it's unclear if it was from the gunfire or a dog bite. that suspect is expected to be okay. >>> the search is on for a man who groped a woman at uc berkeley. police are showing this video of him. campus police say he groped a woman while she was drinking from a water fountain. it happened last month in the student union building. investigators are hoping someone will recognize the guy and come forward. >>> the pentagon is the latest governmental department losing money to president trump's border wall. the defense department is now delaying more than 100

nbc bay area's damian trujillo reports. >> reporter: it's one of the hottest high school fads. >> mostly every day i see it around. it's a common appearance in bathrooms, locker rooms, and during passing periods. >> reporter: ava is a cheer lead at san jose's lincoln high school and ad miss mits to experiencing with vaping but gave it up. their hope is to use students like ava to help deliver the just don't do it message and sound the alarm among teens who vape. >> it is imperative to include youth in any of the work that's being done that they are the ones seeing these things on the ground and really need to be part of the solutions. >> reporter: especially they say when vapes are beingisguised as school instruments making them look like flash drives, even highlighters to fool teachers and parent. the county superintendent says e-cigarettes come in 15,000 flavors increasing their appeal and doing a lot of damage along the way. the state department of public health has identified 65 potential cases of acute lung disease among youth who have vaped in california including one fatality. >>
