damian trujillo is live in san jose with the latest.od morning, laura. the san jose war memorial had been boarded up but yesterday the volunteers and the contractor put the finishing touches on the restoration of the san jose war memorial. vandals shattered three of these glass panels, each worth about $18,000. we brought a vietnam veteran out here and he told us it was one of the most disgusting things he witnessed and he saw a lot. volunteers got together and able to restore the memorial. the expensive glass panels were replaced with cheaper more durable glass. now each costs about $2,000 instead of 18. so the memorials of our men and women will again be in full display in the center of downtown san jose. in a couple weeks there will abrededication of the new memorial but you're getting the first look here on nbc bay area. we don't know if they were anti-war protesters or regular vandals but police have not made arrests. in any case t rededication of this war memorial will begin in a couple of days. i'm damian trujillo, "today in the

damian trujillo is live where they will have a group prayer service in memory of those who were killed. damian? >> good evening. that will take place in about an hour from now. the flowers keep arriving to the home of the gutierrez family. last week, last tuesday, martha was reported missing by the family. the next day what happened here at the home as the police came over and found abel gutierrez shot his 11-year-old sister and turned the gun on himself. this morning police discovered the body of martha who was missing for more than a week. they found her near holster off highway 156 near the county line. they found her there and they recovered her body and brought her back to the coroner's office in santa clara county. abel served several tours in iraq and he had suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. he was being treated for that at the va hospital in washington state. they never suspected that anything like this would happen although neighbors told me in the past that he was seen playing russian rule et with not sure if it was a loaded gun, but it was a gun outside the home.
