damian trujillo is live in san jose with the latest.od morning, laura. the san jose war memorial had been boarded up but yesterday the volunteers and the contractor put the finishing touches on the restoration of the san jose war memorial. vandals shattered three of these glass panels, each worth about $18,000. we brought a vietnam veteran out here and he told us it was one of the most disgusting things he witnessed and he saw a lot. volunteers got together and able to restore the memorial. the expensive glass panels were replaced with cheaper more durable glass. now each costs about $2,000 instead of 18. so the memorials of our men and women will again be in full display in the center of downtown san jose. in a couple weeks there will abrededication of the new memorial but you're getting the first look here on nbc bay area. we don't know if they were anti-war protesters or regular vandals but police have not made arrests. in any case t rededication of this war memorial will begin in a couple of days. i'm damian trujillo, "today in the

i'm damian trujillo, "today in the bay." >> 5:03 now. this morning we're learning more about the final moments leading up to the shooting of a hell's angels member allegedly by another club member. steve ruiz is charged with killing steve townsend for another hell's angel. in filings police same that ruiz was severely beaten by two men including townsend just before the shooting. ruiz is reportedly punched, kicked and knocked to the grown. it appears that ruiz shot townsend as he stood over him. >> police are asking for help to catch a suspect in a series of armed robberies. take a look at the sketches. the man suspected in two robberies last month at terra linda gas stations. both happened in broad daylight. one caught on surveillance video. you can see in this video the suspect walking up to the cashier at gateway gas on february 14th. he pulls out a gun, demands money, then he takes off on foot. police believe the same man hit a union 76 gas station on the 28th. >> the berkeley student gravely injured after he fell from the second flo

damian trujillo is live at the girl's high school where she never showed up for class friday. sadly, this is a big mystery? >> reporter: it is, john. police can't determine if it is an abduction or run away case. they're still piecing the pieces together. right now, a worried mother is waiting for word from her 15-year-old while investigators are here, speaking with students at this high school. they have been here since 7:00 this morning, when deputies arrived at the high school. they'll speak with deputies and staff to see if anyone has seen the sophomore. marlene lamar last saw her daughter friday morning at 6:00 a.m. when sierra left for school. but sierra never made it to the high school. investigators say there are no signs of a struggle and no indications foul play may be involved. search teams spent most of the past two days looking for sierra in the fields around her home. other than the cell phone and laptop, they have little to go on. they're running forensic tests on both items. we spoke with her mother an hour and a half ago. >> no way she could have run away? >>

damian trujillo is live where they will have a group prayer service in memory of those who were killed. damian? >> good evening. that will take place in about an hour from now. the flowers keep arriving to the home of the gutierrez family. last week, last tuesday, martha was reported missing by the family. the next day what happened here at the home as the police came over and found abel gutierrez shot his 11-year-old sister and turned the gun on himself. this morning police discovered the body of martha who was missing for more than a week. they found her near holster off highway 156 near the county line. they found her there and they recovered her body and brought her back to the coroner's office in santa clara county. abel served several tours in iraq and he had suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. he was being treated for that at the va hospital in washington state. they never suspected that anything like this would happen although neighbors told me in the past that he was seen playing russian rule et with not sure if it was a loaded gun, but it was a gun outside the home.

nbc's bay area damian trujillo is outside of the complex in gilroy where it has gripped that community. they had a vigil last night and they are so worried about finding martha. >> reporter: the flowers and balloons keep arriving outside of the family's apartment on this rainy afternoon and meanwhile today urban search and rescue teams were out scouring the area looking for the mother. the memories are many for those who live at the redwoods apartments. >> she is 11, a cute little girl. just made everyone happy. >> reporter: police say the little girl's own brother, a war veteran, killed her before killing himself. that was wednesday night. and the family hasn't seen the siblings mother since tuesday. police say they have discouraging evidence. >> there was a violent struggle inside of abe bele's vehicle. and there is blood inside of the car. we are fearing for the worse and hoping that she's alive. they indicated that abel had returned back from the war, that he wasn't himself, and they suspected that he might have been suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. >> reporter: the fa

i'm damian trujillo. >>> a medical mistake left a woman a quadriplegic. in a medical malpractice lawsuit a judge awarded robin frankel $22 million in damages. the palo alto daily news says the 48-year-old had gone to the foundation in 2006 to be treated for migraines. doctors performed an angiogram on her but they say the procedure was unnecessary and paralyzed her from the neck down. the money will help frankel pay for her care. the state assemblyman representing san bruno says the request to offset some of its fines is absurd. this week pg&e said it has spent more than $220 million on pipeline tests and other projects as a result of the blast and it wants credit for that. pg&e wants to apply that money to the $200 million in fines it expects to be levied as a punishment for the 2010 pipeline blast which killed eight people and destroyed 88 homes. jerry hill says the only thing that would be more absurd than the offer, if it were accepted. >>> let's turn your attention to the weather now. hopefully you didn't pack away that umbrella because, yes, rain is
