damian trujillo received a tip on this operation. he is live at the blossom hill apartments in south san jose where one of the raids took police. dame ran? >> reporter: these apartments are only a half a block away from oak grove high school. the fbi said it arrested two people on federal drug charges. fbi agents in suits were at the blossom hill apartments after 5:00 this morning. here they're arresting one of two men. they're facing federal charges for conspiracy to distribute meth. >> today the fbi, along with our local partners conducted a number of law enforcement actions, interdictions across the san jose area. >> reporter: the fbi says its gang task force in the south bay led the operation. the agency won't say if the suspects are part of a larger organized group or gang, but agents needed help from neighboring police departments to make the arrests. >> again, i can't comment on the number of officers that were out there. but there was an appropriate number of tactical personnel, fbi s.w.a.t. personnel involved in several inte

in san jose, damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. >> the alarming homicide rate, within the last 24 hours, the 35th and 36th homicides of the year have occurred. one of them was gang related according to police. this morning, friends set up a memorial for the man who was murdered just after midnight. he had been celebrating another friend's birthday outside of a house in east san jose when men with blue rags over their faces shot and killed him. he was in his 30s, married with a child. a friend tells us he doesn't understand why he would be targeted considering he wasn't in a gang himself. >> we were just hanging out. no gangbangers involved. there was nobody that gang bangs here. no colors whatsoever. we're just outside bbqing and all you hear is about three to four guys that were outside cooking, running for the house, and all you hear is shots fired, shots fired. the guy that had the shot runs into the house, dropped to the floor. >> another man was murdered in downtown san jose around 8:30 last night. police responded to a fight on second street near san fernando. they found the victi

live in san jose, i'm damian trujillo. >> a richmond man convicted of instigating a gang rape will serve 32 careers for that crime. manuel ortega was the first of six defendants charged in the 2009 assault on a 15-year-old girl. the high school girl was leaving a dance had she started talking with a group of men and boys on campus. she was beaten, robbed and raped over a period of two others while people stood around and watched much the community was enraged that no one called police. ortega faced a life sentence but accepted a plea bargain and was officiallily sentenced this morning. >> another weekend, another bridge closure. the san mateo bridge, lanes will be closed for retrofitting. they'll be replacing the deck and installing new seismic joints. the bridge will be totally closed from 10:00 tonight through 5:00 on monday morning. it will be closed next weekend as well. drivers can use the dumb barton bridge as an alternate route. >>> this is a live look at lake tahoe. no snow in sight. it's all about to change. lets bring in jeff ranieri for more on that and the rain headed our way
