nbc bay area's damian trujillo live at the command post with the latest. damian? >> reporter: well, terry, everything seems to be back to normal tonight. but in the words of one police officer, it got hairy there for a while. this is where they organize their response on this cinco de mayo weekend. and it was a relatively quiet weekend up until a short while ago. police do tell me that between 300 and 400 people took over santa clara street. the commander says they virtually destroyed one bus, shattering its windows with bottles. dozens of officers arrived on the scene in riot gear and began retaking control of santa clara and 21st streets. it all started with a stabbing and escalated into a police emergency. 8:30 is about the time it started hitting the wall, but in no time, san jose police officers were able to disperse the crowd. they have made several arrests, and they credit the quick massive response with helping take back the streets from the revellers. >> we have everybody available working this week. we have all of patrol working. we have our emergency te
