our team coverage continues with "today in the bay's" damian trujillo. damian, as you mentioned, it's calm out there right now but it was pretty wild overnight. >> reporter: yeah, it kept my family awake for most of the night. it was really windy. we're surrounded by oak trees so it was windy and loud at our home. it caused a lot of damage all across the bay area. first over to forestville. forestville is just west of santa rosa off highway 116. the wind toppled one tree here blocking the road. there's no word of when there might be a reopening of that road. and in mountain view, a scary moment for one driver. this is northbound 85. the driver said he was on the off-ramp when a large eucalyptus tree slammed on top of his car. the driver said he was shaken up but otherwise okay. rescue crews managed to pull the car out of the mess. then they went on to remove the tree from the middle of that off-ramp on 85. the driver said he e can't belie how w close of a a call thisis . >> it j just felell off r right on the car. and thehere was wayay i wasas a get away

i'm damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. >> damian, thanks. >>> the storm caused a lot of damage along the pacific coastline, specifically in the town of el granada. we have footage of a tree that fell in the middle of that road yesterday. thankfully no one was hurt. no homes were hit. still a frightening experience. >> we came running outside and saw this tree had taken out some of our tree. it took out the power and internet line there and completely blocked the street. so it was pretty crazy. luckily no one was hurt. no damage to any property, cars, or people. so we're happy about that. >> across the bay area, other homes and cars were not so lucky. the storm, as you likely know, brought down many trees. >>> we're talking about power outages, internet outages. pg&e says it prepared for a while for this storm, but that doesn't mean the weather will cooperate for the repairs. pg&e says so far, 440,000 customers have lost power during the storm. but by noon today, crews had restored about 70% of those outages. but you heard damian talking about it. there's still thousands of people wit

damian trujillo joins us with the very latest from half moon bay. >> reporter: another day of tears and disbelief here in half moon bay. the public memorial keeps growing right across the street from city hall. another day of remembering those killed in this senseless tragedy. today that memorial stretched from the peninsula to mexico friends and family came to the site of the memorial in downtown half moon bay to pray, light a candle, and talk about the farm worker killed in this week's mass shooting. >> my family, they are so sad. they so really upset about the situation that happened. >> reporter: catalina martinez' sister was marciano's sister-in-law. she used her time at the plaza to send a facebook live message to friends and family in both the bay area and mexico. >> they can feel that empty in their heart. >> reporter: marciano lived at the pillar ridge mobile home park in moss beach. he also played in a local band. marciano is the one playing the red congas. always a smile. always a positive attitude. his next door neighbor olga says this is too painful for words. she took engl

our damian trujillo spent the day in half moon bay. i know you spoke with people who knew one of the farm workers. i understand marciano jimenez. what are you learning about him today? >> reporter: well, audrey, friends and family tell me that he has been here for quite a few years. he was unable to go back to mexico when his mom died and then his dad died for a couple reasons, for financial reasons and for immigration reasons. and so they said he was kind of distraught for sometime because he was not able to attend the funerals of his own parents. he attended school here in the half moon bay area, pinata college and menlo college as well studying english and computers. he wanted to better himself, become a better person and hopefully work his way out of the fields at some point until this tragedy happened. his family was here earlier today. they had some prayers, they knelt on both knees and had some prayers for him and all the other victims as well. just a tragic event that is gripping this community and understandably those family m

joining us now is nbc bay area's damian trujillo who spoke to shelters struggling to care for these dogs. you also spoke to police, damian. there was a deadly encounter and confrontation with one of these stray dogs, right? >> reporter: yes, janelle. it happened here in the north part of the san jose. a man was walking his dog here in this park. a dog came out of the creek and started attacking the man and his dog. then he ran away. the man called 911. police arrived. the stray dog returned and started lunging and grabbing at the gentleman's dog again, so police say they had to use deadly force. they're saying big, stray dogs are now landing over at the shelter in san jose. what police are doing right now, we found one family who brought two stray dogs wandering to the shelter. the shelter had to turn them away because they are overcrowded right now. they say come back in 72 hours. can you care for them for the next 72 hours and hopefully we'll have space. because of the torrential rains, the dogs are coming out of the creeks where they've been living the past few months and few years if

our nbc bay area's damian trujillo spent some time with them and he joins us live from the season of one of the locations. the mushroom farm off 92 and he joins us live. it's been a very difficult day for you as well. >> reporter: it really has, janelle. you can imagine the family is trying to make sense of the horror they saw in the crime scene behind me off highway 92. many of them lived in that farm. some are staying in local hotels. many of the witnesses and workers displaced by the tragedy are staying at two half moon bay hotels. not side one lobby, you saw blank stares from people who still appeared to be in shock. no one was willing or able to talk on camera. this man says everything is fine but the anguish was evident. we then found a man at the sheriff's substation who says his traumatized ex-wife was in one of the rooms when the gunman showed up and shot three of the co-workers before letting her walk away unharmed. >> bad. really bad. scared, nervous. really bad right now. >> reporter: police are finding another difficulty as they work to find the families of five men and

so has our damian trujillo. they're supporting the farmworkers and the employees with whatever they need, resources, housing, pay, wages, food, blankets, whatever they need. i did speak to one of the victim's p.m. families today. they did not want to talk on camera. the young lady, her father was killed as one of the seven people shot and killed, and she's obviously in mourning right now. and she was at the sheriff's station speaking with investigators, who are still trying to uncover any clues about what led to this horrific attack and get the latest on their investigation. as for the suspect, he will be arraigned tomorrow at the san mateo county courthouse in redwood city, raj. >> janelle, stay where you are. let's move on here. >>> we were mentioning that service happening this evening for the victims, for the victims' families, and really for all of us, the community. it started about an hour ago at the coastside lutheran church in half moon bay. nbc's terry mcsweeney continues our coverage. he's at that ser

damian trujillo spent time with crews in san jose. >> reporter: this is one of those hot spots. san jose remains under a state of emergency as the next storm approached so crews are out there today making repairs. spend any time on the bay area roads and you'll likely run into one of these, a new pothole. >> this is crazy. they're basically everywhere. i, myself, also avoid the potholes. i switch lanes because it's happened before where i'll hear my car scrape because i hit the pothole. >> reporter: we know hitting them is an issue but dodging them can create problems as well. we saw people crossing the divider line to avoid them. trying to get out of the way? >> i guess without endangering. >> reporter: and fixing the storm damage can create its own problems. crews had to shut down a lane of highway 17 today to clear drains. in 880 in fremont the pothole problem was so bad caltrans shut down all lanes for 45 minutes to fill in the holes. trying to clear catch basins, more storm-related repairs. teams stretched all across the city. >> i think about six crews out doing what we're
