joining me with reaction, "wall street journal" column list dan -- columnist dan henninger and anastashay. you think tax reform is possible, lower the rays, broad hen the base? >> absolutely. as you mentioned this fellow is going to be chairman of the house budget committee. that's like a miracle. house ways and means. writes the tax laws, run for a long time by charlie rangel who has been in the news lately. the new chairman is congressman of michigan cut from the same clothe as paul ryan. he's in charge of writing these laws. the centrist in washington, including this commission and another one bipartisan policy center, run by pete domenici and alice rivlin released a report calling for lower taxes and flattening the base. there's a consensus building for doing this i don't think it is going to happen during the obama administration but definitely point it towards 2012. >> paul: to do something like this, it did get done in 1986 with ronald reagan but it has to be bipartisan in some respect. >> yeah, i think dan's point about how the environment is really ready. obama may be very much

dan had a great sense of humor. he used to joke that he led the league in one category -- surgeries. in fact, he leaves a rich record of athletic achievement. in 22 seasons as an ncaa division one head coach dan callahan compiled an impressive record of 595 wins and 605 losses, 442 of those nearly 600 victories were at southern illinois, making him the second winningest coach in their history. dan was one of just five coaches in the missouri valley conference history to win over 200 league times. in his time in carbondale, he produced 23 major league draft picks and 19 first-team all-m.v.p. selections. baseball was dan's lifelong love and passion. as an athlete he pitched two seasons at the university of new orleans, two at quincy college from which he graduated. after college he pitched professionally in both the san diego padres and seattle mariners' organizations. his first coaching job was in my hometown at springfield high school his alma mater. he also coached at eastern illinois university for five years befo

we start with dan pompei who has more on the child who was killed, dan. >> reporter: the boy's name, deavian arnold, only three years old. his mother told me tonight he was especially close with his grandmother who survived the fire. 3-year-old deavian arnold was home this afternoon when the fire started. firefighters say it began in the kitchen on the stove and quickly began to cabinets and ceilings. neighbors tried to call 911 and tried to get in the apartment after seeing the boy knocking on the window in the back bathroom. >> we couldn't kick that door open. it had a dead bolt on it or something because we couldn't get it open. saw him tapping on the windows. >> reporter: firefighters and ambulances were on the scenes within minutes. they immediately found the grandmother lying unconscious on the floor and then searched the rest of the apartment? they found the child in the bedroom behind the bed between the bed and the wall. >> reporter: deavian was rushed to the hospital but it was too late. he was pronounced dead later in the afternoon. >> i just know we gonna miss him. we gon
