so grim dan had to make his way over to the smart board. so dan, what are you watching?> this is also an important one from a sentiment standpoint. you mentioned apple. we know amazon just kills in these periods. they're expected to have $90 billion in sales for this calendar year. but this one is really important because the stock has been a massive underperformer. and it almost feels like -- in 2014. down 24% on the year. it almost feels like something has turned in this name. as far as large investors are concerned. and i want to make a point, when you think about some of the performance of large cap internet stocks, i think we have a display here, a lot of them really performed very poorly this year. google down, ebay down on the year, priceline down on the year, amazon. and so to me, i think it's important when you think about the health of the rally, you need to see some of these market leaders perform well. so next week amazon scheduled to report q3 earnings. never do we expect earnings. and i just want to make the point implied move is about 8%. that's a one-day

all of that with dan in a second.nk you for being here. >> great to be here. >> first, we have earnings results. >> from dow, not the whole dow, but the chemical company, dow, reporting estimates above wall street expectations. dow chemical reports third quarter results moments ago, and it was adjusted 7 it 2 -- 72 cents versus expectations of 68 cents, 4 cents ahead, which is good. street was looking for 14.309 billion in sales, and the company was able to beat that at 14.41 billion. there are performance plastics, materials, sierciences, and all those bloken out, and 2.27 billion dollars, and the stock a minute ago couldn't tell where it would open, but now it's higher, up 63 cents, now i have a 48.98 bid on my machine. above that now. joining us now for a first interview to walk us through the numbers, chairman and ceo of dow chemical, and, you know, the economy's not awful, andrew, but, i guess you'd say some of the performance is due to some of your initiatives bearing fruit over the past couple years, yeah? >> y

dan's been out on the road and here to explain why. how many competitive races are we talking about, dan? >> there are 36 states with gubernatorial races. and you could say about half, actually, are somewhat competitive. and charlie cook's cook political report at this point puts 11 of those races as pure tossups and another republican held seat in jeopardy and leaning democratic. the most interesting thing, though, gwen, is the number of incumbent republican and democratic governors who are in trouble. normally what we see is it's open seats where you have the greatest competition. but there are probably seven or eight republican incumbents who are in really tough races. and three democrats who are in really tough races. gwen: you were in colorado with john hicken looper one of the top democrats. >> i was. i was there earlier in the week. governor hickenlooper won fairly easily four years ago and had weak opposition and won without any great trouble. he came in with a kind of a quirky personality that had worked for him very well in d

dan, what's your diagnosis? you know, paul, it is fascinating that we have seen nothing like the volatility we have this week where the dow was going in the red, in the green all day long. and you know, stock markets are pretty good at pricing events out there. i don't think some of the things that are going on now, like islamic state in iraq, ebola, and so forth could be causing that kind of volatility. markets absorb it. they knew those things were going on. i think it has to be something else. i like to point to the international monetary fund meetings last weekend in washington in which central bankers admitted they have run out of tools to stimulate growth in the united states. and the united states has to lead if the world is going to grow again. the institution to do that is the federal reserve. the federal reserve keeps sending mixed signals on when it is getting off the zero bound interest rate policy. even they say we need something else. that something else would be pro-growth policy from the white ho

dan stesich is coining us -- joining from us the cme. dan, i want to start with you. dealer's choice on economic data that we bring in tomorrow whether durable goods or case-shiller. what are you watching most closely? >> i'm looking at everything right now. i think the big one to watch is gdp out on thursday. that will give us the first glimpse what is going on in the third quarter. all indications that will be pretty good, above the 3% level. we have a lot. we have durable goods tomorrow. fed announcement on wednesday. and this is all these things we'll have to watch. markets are paying attention to fundamentals. that is why it is muted today because we have so much pogue on later in the week. david: chucks, are the markets stablizing here? >> yes, we think that the markets are stablizing. obviously we got close to the 10% correction line. we bounced back. earnings reports have been great. almost 80% of earnings reports have beaten and 60% of revenues have beaten. so it has been great earnings numbers. we expect that the markets are stablizing here to go to higher h
