dan: good evening. i am dan senor filling in for charlie rose.ust this week, dutch voters went to the polls to vote in one of the least exciting elections on the european calendar. but the vote matters because of the wave of populism throughout the west. the dutch vote is the first of a trio of elections that will tell us a lot about the future of europe. tonight, we talked about what happened what the future holds for leaders. joining me is michiel vos, the u.s. correspondent for several dutch and belgian networks including rto. and nell breyer, executive director of the marshall scholars association. and from washington, d.c., walter russell mead, professor of foreign policy at bard college and distinguished fellow at the hopkins institute. hudson institute. michael, you followed this election in the netherlands closely. there was a lot of focus on it. everyone thought it would tell us a lot about the future of europe. why was everybody so focused on this election and one particular rising particular star? politica star? >> it was all about him

dan: right. want to come back to the russia piece of this. a public policy matter. one other issue, today the administration, secretary kelly, announced a new order relating to the travel ban. i'm somewhat sympathetic. we can debate the rollout of the initial travel ban, but the argument the administration made initially is that in those countries where individuals could be traveling from you have , basically failed states, collapsed vetting processes -- shouldn't there be a case for at least tightening up the process by which we make decisions about who comes in and out of the country? michael: i understand. it took the not so failed state, iraq, out of the list because they have a working government there. i would say we have a far better implementation plan, but i disagree with the premise. i think it is a flawed policy. it is not because they are not bad places, they are. but i do think the campaign rhetoric has gotten ahead of our skis here, in how much a threat this really represents. the s

dan: explain what heterodox is.scure academic name because our goal is to appeal to professors. everyone can agree that an orthodox academy would be a bad thing. had a sacramento and pledged allegiance -- we can all pledge allegiance to truth. the the allegiance becomes focused on antiracism, if we all are like this is our mission, dan: i want to come back to what frank said about students not being exposed to people who may view the world differently, ideologically. so, talk about when the are leaving their senior year of college and they are actually pursuing jobs professionally, not just the lack of ideological diversity. what this means for them in terms of their ability to compete and increasingly cutthroat competitive employment environment. >> gear very rigid in their notions of how things should be and that translates well beyond politics to everything else. i employers complaining all the time about this generation of students because they hate to be challenged, they hate to be countermanded as they have be

dan: that is not good governing., a major o-matic incident with turkey -- diplomatic incident with turkey that is inflaming a serious crisis in europe's southeast is not a small concession to populism. it is the equivalent of hillary clinton having said i'm going to build a bigger walden donald trump. >> after letting in a couple of million immigrants, it has become a problem for her. now there is talk she in the lead up to her own reelection campaign is going to get tougher on immigration issue learning from this example? policy,nk her migration her original policy is not sustainable. it was not only causing a ititical crisis in germany, was causing a massive crisis inside the e.u. because the e.u. was going to tell every country how many refugees or allocation was. that was driving everybody crazy. she cannot do that. focus isay the probably going to be on turkey because turkey is the country that on the one hand is sort of trashing european values, you know, locking of journalists. and yet, europe is dependent on

dan. >> it is a tough one.this point those four names you just mentioned and throw apple in there with a $730 billion market cap, you have 2.5 trillion in tech. that's more than a third of the nasdaq 100. this has been a concern of mine. it seems to be that the world seems very comfortable with these stocks and they're obviously executing very well and there are stories that will be around for a long time. the fact they don't even budge tells me that it is a pretty crowded trade. that's been a good trade, especially when you see apple up 20% on the book, the others up 8%, 9%, in line with the nasdaq. i don't think you want to buy the stocks at the highs. >> 100%. we know the best performing sector on the year, also the largest cap in term of weighting in the market. we know if you look at a long-term chart of this sector from highs and lows, lows to now, for the first time in eight years it is through the upper band of that channel. bull outs through the top are end stage kind of things, not a time to be chasin

dan has this call to action. dan?> so both of these -- like you said, there's a lot of rumors and the stocks have performed well because of the thought they -- maybe they would be acquired by a different sort of -- maybe a cable company or that sort of thing. clearly these stocks are in play at the moment. i'm not so certain let's just look at sprint right now that you want to chase a stock that's up 170% from its 52 week lows. but we can use options to construct a trade strategy that would let you participate on a move to the upside and give you a little room on the downside if your long entry isn't great. i want to talk about using a call spread risk reversal and that's selling a put to help finance a call or a call spread. we'll buy a call spread or sell a put. you're looking to basically have an alternative to stock. that's really for the risk management sort of purpose. the other reason i would say, this finance of the put sale what i'm trying to do is create a scenario where i'm not paying premium out right now.
