>> good evening i'm dan ashley. bay area golf course is not high open its hog. wild pig infiltrated the oak hurst country club in the easts bay tairping the fair way and making a real mess of things. the club hired a hunter to get rid of the pigs. allen live there and neighbors first heard about the idea after they heard the gunshot, right. >>reporter: yes. in case they are hearing these gunshots at night it is because the country club now has a permit to hunt wild pig out here. why? well, compared to the brush terrain outside the golf course the oak hurst country club loo looks like a garden fresh salad to hungry wild pig. 16 hole apparently has the best grub root and worms. herd of about 25 wild pigs have been plowing up the fair way out here fencing them out hasn't worked so now the country club has a fish and game permit to hunt these pigs inside city limits. but hunting them isn't easy. the hog forge at night. they

dan ashley reports. >> the san joaquin river was once big enough to carry steamboats loaded with passengersm the north to a booming fresno. the lush banks and its gentle waters provided relief on hot summer days. in the water a plentiful run of chinook salmon traveled hundreds of miles to breed in the southern most salmon run in north america. >> historical the salmon population ranged in the hundreds of thousands. >> there are no salmon here anymore. in fact until this spring, long stretches of the river had been wiped out, cut off from the water that once passed. this is the plug that stopped it. the dam that was completed in the 1940s to provide water to the farms that sprang up, and for flood protection for towns downstream. by 1945, canal that has take water from the dam were completed. that is really when parts of the san joaquin river started to dry up. >> he is one of a number of scientists and environmentalists who say life may soon return to the dead river. >> this is probably not unlike we would have seen>> they histo. >> they filed suit against the bureau of reclamation in 1988

>>> good evening, i'm dan ashley. we are beginning to begin to an emergency repair to the san mateo bridge. they discovered a cracked steel girder. amy hollyfield is there. far westbound lane is still closed for repairs, is that right? >> it is. they are hoping to get it open by tomorrow afternoon but it could take longer than that. the goal is to get it open by tomorrow night's commute. they found the crack in a routine inspection a safety one they do twice a year. this crack is in a steel beam that is part of the retrofit work put in place in 2001. this is part that allows the bridge to move and roll in an earthquake. so it doesn't pose a huge threat but they have to fix it now. >> tomorrow morning is going to be rough. if you normally use that bridge, we are expecting a lot more congestion. you definitely want to use an alternate route, dumbarton or bay bridge. do expect delays tomorrow. >> reporter: crack is ten inches long. it's underneath the road on the westbound side. they are bringing in two steel beams and h

i'm dan ashley. residents are on edge in berkeley tonight. six dead animals and a slew of recent mountain lion sightings. so what is the city's solution? abc 7's alan wang is live there tonight. they really have someone acting as a liaison between the police and public on this? >> there really wasn't an uproar when the recent lion was shot near berkeley. residents wanted to set some guidelines. in one month, six animal carcasses found in and around the lawrence lab property likely because the deer have become easy prey for the mountain lions. employees have seen a mother and two cubs on the property. lab officials are encouraging employees to cohabitate. the lab signed on wildlife biologist jim hail to monitor the mountain lions on its 200-acre property and act as a liaison between the police and the public. >> i'm educating them basically. assuring them that the mountain lions are just doing what they normally do. for are hunting deer and aging for deer and not hunting for humans. >> we have a large population of deer brought here by the wel
