. >> and i'm dan ashley. the demonstration was sparked by saturday's fatal police shooting of a parolee from washington state. >> police say 19-year-old kenneth harding, junior fired first. late today police say gunshot residue found on harding's right happened backs up their claim he was armed. still that protest went on. abc7's john alston was there and he joins us now live. >> carolyn, things have calmed down. there were 35 arrests. a san francisco motorcycle officer was hurt when demonstrators tried to knock him off his bike. it was a tense showdown until just before 10:00 tonight. protesters tangled with police on powell street near market. >> if you fail to return to the sidewalks, you are subject to arrest. >> when officers in riot gear corraled them to the sidewalk, the demonstrators sat down. that's when police started making arrests, about three dozen by sun down. >> we supported these folks along the way to exercise first amendment rights. we reached a point where the crowd was getting bull sister

i'm dan ashley. a police chase in the east bay starts us off here tonight. officers are chasing three gang members likely responsible for a rampage of violence that spans two states. they are believed, of course, to be armed. 20 highway patrol cars are on the move tonight. the chase may have also started in east palo alto and hit union city before going north on 880 into oakland and down 980 over 580 through castro valley and liver more before heading due east. two days ago the police chief asked for the public help identifying the gang members. the crime spree includes three murders. two in east palo alto and one in grand junction, colorado along with two armed robberies and oneburg willry. the suspects are 20-year-old christian fuentes who is in custody. police want the public help in finding 19-year-old jamie cardenas and fidel silva who police believe they are chasing. we have a reporter on the way and we will update the story as it develops throughout this newscast. an ongoing police chase of suspected gang themes stretching more than three freeways tha

i'm dan ashley. tension between immigrants living in san jose and the city's police department led to a community meeting tonight. immigrants say they are no longer reporting crimes because they simply do not trust police. more than 150 people attended tonight's meeting and abc 7's lisa amin gulezian is live in san jose to discuss what happened there and whether any progress was made. lisa? >> dan, there was a lot of mixed reaction to the meeting and there were also a lot of people who showed up to tell the chief of police they don't trust his officers. the hispanic community's fear, anger and distrust of san jose police has been an issue for years and chief chris moore who stepped in, in february, says he tried to build up the strained relationship but in late june two federal homeland security agents who worked under the department of immigration joined san jose p.d. to help with the growing gang problem. 28 homicides in the city, half gang related. adding the agents sent even more fear through the
