dan, how does the cohen guilty plea change the narrative, if at all, of the russia, trump collusion storychanges the narrative very much from what we have been watching. what we have known since the beginning of the investigation is robert mueller would like to nail donald trump and at this point michael cohen would like to stay out of jail. it's a marriage made in hell, quite frankly. both sides are playing their appointed roles. we knew about m trump's deal, proposed deal with the tower in moscow back in late 2015 through 2016, all cohen has added is that there may have been, he says, more involvement by trump in that deal. paul: and that extended for a longer period. >> it extended for looker period of time. paul: into june of 2016 where trump gave the impression there was no real extensive discussions. cohen says actually there were more extensive discussions and they lasted longer. >> it's difficult to identify a crime in the center of cohen's pleading. the optics are pretty terrible, a personlt running for the presidency of the united states probably should not be doing simultaneous

mr cohen has given to a separate investigation into possible collusion between mr trump's election campaign staff and russia being conducted by robert mueller. our correspondent in washington is danon. he's been looking at the new evidence in the cohen case. really amning detail about michael cohen's criminal past. he admitted to much of that already, that is not new, but what we've learned is that during the months he has been cooperating with robert mueller‘s investigation, he has been able to talk special counsel more about top—level russian connections with the trump campaign during the presidential election back in 2016 and the key piece of evidence is about a project to build a trump tower in moscow, something that was being looked at and discussed with the russian government, a multibillion—pound project that would have required the assistance and approval of the russian government. michael cohen has admitted to robert mueller‘s investigation that the discussions about that building project, even though it never went ahead, did continue during the presidential election so that means there was connections and there were discussions between the trump campaign and the russian

cohen testifies otherwise, lonnie davis will be a witness in the case and this is the stuff of the cross-examination. >> jason: dan, i still think it's suspicious that davis is involved. is it coincidence that cohen gets the attorney that has dealt with the clintons? you are a secret service agent. if you had a guy like cohen come before you, what do you do with a guy like that? now he's an admitted liar. >> he is. the way you investigate a case like this, you go and do an investigation. in an investigation of travel overseas, whether it's a drug deal, an alleged collusion conspiracy ring, jason, there's a very easy way to figure this out. you go and check hotel records. you can check, we had text back in the day. you can check passport records and travel records. what's my point? all of those things indicate michael cohen was not in prague. david brought up an excellent point. what motivation could michael cohen possibly have trying to get himself out of jail and work off a sentence through proper agreements, trying to get applied k letter. what motivation would he possibly have to continue to lie, jason, about b

. >> dan, i want to get your reaction as well. the point cohen made was a lot of what he was telling mueller mueller already now about. how critical is that with what people say, cohen is a lawyer, he's not to be trusted. >> far more important than cohen's sprf is the fact that the southern district asserted to a court that donald trump coordinated and directed michael cohen to make these payments because the southern district of new york, you'll remember, in april, did those searches and what they likely obtained is a treasure trove of information. the fact that they could say cohen was credible about that indicates they have more evidence. but the problem they run into or the problem that the southern district runs into in the investigation of this administration is michael cohen is not cooperating with the southern district of the new york. he's in the a witness available to them right now and this is why he got three years in prison is he didn't go the full length he needed to in order to become a full-on signed up witness. he has provided in

so dan goldman, dovetail that with what we learned in that michael cohen criminal information this week. how closely does it hue to it? i was just struck, as i think everybody at the table was, by the performtive normalcy according to dmitry peskov, that this was just another businessman writing us for a deal. >> what you're seeing from peskov and trump is an incredibly literal interpretation of the facts. in other words, donald trump says, i never had any investments in russia. that is true. he also did not reveal that he was seeking investments and deals in russia during the campaign. same with peskov. said, i never had returned the e-mail. peskov himself did not return the e-mail, but his assistant had a 20-minute conversation with michael cohen about this and it does appear from michael cohen's court documents that felix seder, the intermediary, was having additional conversations with peskov or the kremlin. so again, it's an overly literal evasion of the issue, when in reality what was going on, there was coordination between the trump organization and the kremlin to try to build t

dan, i want to start with you. if ami says it was hush money and cohen said it was hush money, is that enough cooperating evidence or is trump cleared when he says cohen was a lawyer? >> i assuming they both say donald trump was in on it and knew it was hush money payments and he knew that, it is enough. he has been searching around for a workable defense for months now. first, it was i didn't know about it at all. now it's, well, michael cohen is my lawyer and this is advice of counsel. it has some curb appeal. it is a failure from a legal perspective. in order to assert an advice of counsel defense, you have to affirmably seek legal advice about whether something is legal or not. i'm quite confident there's no way and michael cohen would testify to this, at no point did donald trump say, michael, can i make these hush money payments under the campaign finance laws? which effectively, he would have to do and he would have to reasonably rely on it. this is why defense lawyers tell their clients to shut up. even if it was a colorable defense, the fact he made other offenses completely undermines it. i would point out

dan bongino. i think to start with you david because there's a new report out today that there were pings on cohen's phone in the czech republic. and his attorney has insisted no and cohen has tweeted out, no, that wasn't the case. but can anything be believed by cohen? >> there's just no credibility there at all anymore. cohen's motivation would be to say he were in prague and colluding and bury the president. the fact that he's still saying today that he wasn't in prague and that davis is swearing that his client said he wasn't in prague is significant. so if mr. cohen testifies otherwise, davis will be a witness in the case and this is the stuff of cross-examination. >> i still think it's suspicious. it's just coincidentally cohen gets the attorney. he just happened to land with that guy. it doesn't make any sense. if you had a guy like cohen come before you, what do you do with a guy like that because now he's an admitted liar. >> the way you investigate a case like this is you go in and do an investigation. and in an investigation of travel overseas, whether it's a drug deal, an alleged collusi

dan goldman and former u.s. attorney for the southern district of new york. guys, here we go. tom, you were in that courtroom when michael cohen was there. what did you see this morning that was different or similar to what you witnessed in court? >> tiit's a continuation of wha we have seen. he was somebody who was very defiend defia defiant, going to fight this process. each step along the way whether it's in august when he first pled guilty or several weeks ago when he plead guilty and a big turn that we saw at the sentencing a couple of days ago. we see a michael cohen who is getting more serious, consistently more solemn and a michael cohen who is understanding the gravity of the situation and what he is now in the middle of. that's very clear from his demeaner. sentencing taking a whole other step. you're literally the judge asks you to stand and says, i'm sending you to jail for three years. >> what we heard from michael cohen and as it relates to what his former attorney told me yesterday on the show which is we have a lot of stuff to say but we can't talk about any of it. we can't tell you what evidence we have and ca

dan mentions the foreign corrupt act. >> on the family member side, they would argue they weren't originating this plan. this is coming from felix seder and cohen's one making the calls, and they're receiving, you know, this kind of information or plotting that didn't ultimately come to fruition. it's still a little different from their old defense and eric trump sounding like his dad. >> we have no dealings in russia, we have no projects in russia, we have nothing to do with russia. >> daniel? >> well, look, i mean this is where we get into semantics. ultimately there was no deal in russia. that is true. but what they were hiding were their efforts to make a deal in russia that miraculously and perhaps, you know, not coincidently ceased on the same day that it became public that russia had hacked the dnc's e-mails. so there is a link right there, and we get a sense of around the edges of a lot of links, and unfortunately, ari, and for the viewers we're going to have to wait until bob mueller connects these dots. i am guessing there are more e-mails and i am guessing michael cohen's testimony is a lot more robust than what's in that criminal info

commonly with somebody like cohen whose trying to project the idea of cooperation, trying to get a reduced sentence but then apparently put a wall up with the southern district here. >> dan is right. it's all prosecutors and all districts expect that if you are going to cooperate, you're all in. you're either all in or you're not. he tried to have it both ways. he tried to triangulate this. he tried to give them some of what they knew and not much more. he wanted to cooperate with the mueller team but not with the southern district of new york. as a result he didn't get what general flynn got. if you recall from the anyone snnsing documents, he's getting substantial assistance, recognition. he's getting cooperation recognition. the prosecutors have said he was forthcoming and valuable and his honest cooperation helped others come in and cooperate. that didn't happen with michael choen. he tried to have it both ways and it didn't work. he got a bit off but he did not get a substantial assistance motion and he's going to jail. >> lanny davis saying he's no longer the lawyer. he will be a kplcommunications adviser. putting out the likelihood that cohen will speak after the
