dan fitzpatrick. dan, wall street and financial media like to dismiss the dumb money. seems like the geniuses sort of outsmarted themselves. in my mind there are great lessons to be learned, right? >> absolutely. the thing is, smart and dumb money, you have to say when are we talking about that, during strong market uptrends the dumb money is very smart, that money keeps pushing the market higher. that is where we are now. however as the market has gone up as high as it has, these institutions saying wait a minute i don't think we'll be rallying so they're pulling back. this is the exact inflection point where we are now where the retail money, the dumb money has been so damn smart for so damn long that institutions are finally doing what you're talking about doing. shorts are covering and they're racing. i think the market ultimately goes higher, charles, i do feel like with sentiment, some things you were just talking about, really low put/call ratio, really strong breadth. we're kind of due for a little bit of a breather here. charles: let's talk about the breadth part of it. so many ways to measure breadth, advancers decliners, new highs, new lows, volume. we talked a lot about the internals and participation. wasn't long ago 15% of the s&p 500 above their 50-day moving average. only 15%. in fact in may less than two months ago the number was under 30%. now we're at 81%. i guess there is a point, is there a point, we have so much partial only way to go is down? >> pretty much. i think that is a good way to say it. things can only get so good before they have to pull back a bit. you really need to think about it this way. the whole reason why stocks do what they do is money moves in, money moveses out. money moves over here, money move es over there. we're seeing with all the stocks so high, so fast, you look how many are above the 40 or 50-day moving average. the ebb and flow of stocks and market is really likely to pull back a little bit. so you have to look at the strength that these high breadth numbers indicate but then at the same time you have to realize that nothing goes straight up to get this kind of move. charles: sure. i want to ask you about recession as part of your investment thesis. remember, coming into the year, recession was slam dunk first half of the year. half of investors surveyed by jpmorgan say it is first half of 2024. left's say this is right. let's say this is right. how do you invest differently from recessionary period versus a non-recessionary period? >> first of all i think you have to see the recessionary period and we're not there yet. i was in the recession camp. i thought god, the wheels will come off the wagon. we'll be lucky to make it through the first half of 2023 but i know this, the longer something is anticipated by the most number of people the less likelihood there is of that actual happening and so i would take the same approach with investing in a recessionary period as i would in a non-re sessionry period. go about the best stocks. those bringing in the most revenue, okay, fine, but are they on a chart basis, on a price basis are they outperforming their competitors? you don't, it's really not rocket science. it's really just a function of looking in those areas still showing strong growth and we're seeing a lot of those areas still. charles: dani have to let you go but give us one example of that. >> one that i like really is, is on on fitness, onon. that stock is starting to break out right now. i think that will do really well. one short squeeze is expi, that will do really well also. so all of our crypto stocks that you and i talked about a month ago or so are just on fire, microstrategies, marathon digital. so we have a lot of choices that you can make right now to put your money, charles. charles: you've had the hot hand and i appreciate you giving us the short squeeze. that has been a great theme. talk to us soon, dan. >> it has. charles: my takeaway on the hunger cliff it is crazy but no one seems to care about it. ♪. ♪ we played three or four social, but still didn't hit the right song. bring our next guest to discuss what is happening here at these markets. of laffer tengler ceo nancy i don't know what went wrong, we were going to play ac/dc tnt. you texted me that would be your theme song. theme songs aside, talk ab
