abc7 news reporter david louie is live from his home looking into big changes that could impact both diners and restaurant operators alike. >> that is true, dan. as diner, we may see servers with gloves and masks, dining rooms and kitchens are not designed for social distancing. since eating with a mask is impossible, food safety will require some big changes. takeout tuesday is helping to keep some bay area restaurants from perishing. but their futures are filled with uncertainties and unresolved issues. >> i do think it is disconcerting when you see a server with a mask on their face. take sushi for example. >> it's not really a practice that works with gloves. and how do you do sushi and make people feel comfortable with the fact that your hands are clean and that you're doing the right thing? >> restaurants will face social distancing standards. spacing out tables could reduce capacity in half, but that would hurt revenue. they couldn't raise prices 50% just to offset a 50% reduction in diners. then there is the tight quarters in kitchens. >> if there are social distancing standards in the kitchen, how do you figure out spacing people apa

dan thorn kron 4 news santa clara county hospitals are trying to prepare for a possible surge in serious virus cases there. >>today deputy santa clara county executive david campos said that the county currently has about 200 covid-19 patients hospitalized county wide. as the number of people testing positive continues to rise. hospitals have been planning for a possible surge in demand for so-called surge beds and they do not know if or when that surge might occur, but for now there's no shortage of beds or ventilators. >>as of march 31st, there were 936 available acute hospital beds in the county. there were 92. i see you beds. 1456 search beds and 392 ventilators that work where available in the county. >>health officials also say the santa clara convention center. it's been converted into a temporary surge center with 250 beds available there. in addition to adding beds the county is working to secure enough personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves and adding staff. the city of fremont will offer a free drive-thru coronavirus test side tomorrow. it will be located at the fremont fire tactical training center. the address 7200 stevenson b
